We had the good fortune of connecting with BJ Armstead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BJ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We wanted to create a safe space for athletes to express emotions as well as educate them on the importance of mental health. There are a lot of distractions high schools and college and we wanted to make sure they had the opportunity to be educated in anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Apollo Sports Counseling, Inc. is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization that was started in the summer of 2019. We specialize in educating high school and collegiate athletes on Mental Health (Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, etc) in a variety of ways such as Presentations, Workshops, Group Counseling for Parents, Coaching Workshops, and providing resources to the athletes.

From a business aspect, its never easy to get started, but that’s when your passion and ambition has to take over. We understand that athletes are looking for help and some don’t know who to talk to or what to say, but that’s why we are here!
We had to realize that we are stronger together and as a team, we can do anything!

Essentially we are the middle man for athletes and feeling their best self mentally. We are a team of Sport Psychologists, Social Workers, and former athletes with lots of athletes!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would take them to recreation centers around Atlanta and see how we could impact the lives of young athletes. We would then go to professional games to see what similarities youth athletes have with professional athletes and how we could equip athletes with what they need to be there best selves mentally!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is dedicated to all athletes who are grinding and putting work in to be their very best. We want to let you know that we are extremely proud of you, we see you, and we are here for you. This is also dedicated to all social workers, psychologists, counselors, coaches, parents, teammates, and everyone else who works to uplifts athletes.

We at APOLLO would like to say Thank you for all that you are doing and remember… Through It All…WIN!
