We had the good fortune of connecting with Bill Blokzyl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bill, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had read about how much better freshly roasted coffee tasted, and how easy it was. I actually began just roasting for myself and friends.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am artisanal coffee roaster, I roast in very small batches, 1/4 of a lb at a time. This allows me control over the roast points. I use a process which minimizes scorching. It took me quite a while to find a blend of beans that work well together and to develope a roasting style which brings out out the plus points of each bean type. It’s been fun. We use all organic, fair-trade beans and we also roast a very high-quality decaffeinated coffee.
We roast to order, and we ship all over the country.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I wouold take them to Savanah, GA. Great place to visit, lots of history and incredible food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, she helps me with finances and all my books.
