We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Rez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Big Rez, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Be Great or Be Nothing” is a phrase I’ve been saying since 2013. It just reminds me to give 120 percent every time. You’re not gone always feel like giving it your all everyday, & that’s okay. You see, it’s when you don’t feel like doing something, & you push through it anyway, that’s when true change comes.. That phrase means “Keep going”.. regardless of how you feel, regardless of any obstacles you face..”Keep Going”… figure it out, take a breather if you need to, but “Keep going”. I molded BGBN behind that standard. Be Great or Be Nothing..

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up I was never an over achiever. I did just enough to get by. In 2013, I realized this habit of “doing just enough” got me very little. I was tired of living with little. So I decided, to give my all, in everything I did. I would dabble in and out of music late teen early 20s.. At 24 I took a break from music and focused strictly on film for a while. In 2018 I met Tobe Nwigwe, I heard his story…how he got to where he is today..& I could relate to it.. Something inside of me clicked.. My son was otw, & I figured if I was going to take a shot at music again the time is now. So from that day, I got back into music, I’ve been consistent with it ever since.. that’s what I’m most proud of, my consistency.. especially when I’ve never been consistent with anything. – – One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is support is built over time. Often times artist look for instant gratification. Everybody doesn’t go viral.. everybody doesn’t make it in a year.. It’s not as easy as it looks. It’s really a grind. – The second lesson I learned is that people owe you nothing. You can’t take it personal when people leave you read, or ignore you when it comes to your music.. that’s their time, they don’t owe it to you. That’s their choice.. & the sad reality is, your music is not for everyone. – The third lesson, show your supporters that you appreciate them. Don’t ignore them when they comment on your stuff.. or DM you.. don’t go on a rant about how people don’t “appreciate real music anymore blah blah blah” focus on your ten, forget about the crowd. You show your fans you love them, more will come. It’s inevitable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be real, I really don’t know. We’d prolly start the day with a hoop session, or gym session. Hit a Korean bbq spot for lunch, after that prolly hit the mall and spend money on stuff we don’t need. Top Golf is a must. After that we’d hit a cigar lounge smoke some Cohibas while sipping Scotch. .having power conversations reflecting on life. I’m 28 so I’m really a home body now, I don’t like doing 💩. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First & foremost I’d like to shout out my superior, the almighty lord above. Secondly I’d like to give a special shout out to the 23 members of BGBN the movement. You guys give me the fuel I need to keep going everyday. Thirdly I’d like to give a shout to all my supporters, the car can’t move without the wheels, thank you for keeping me rolling.. last but certainly not least, I want to give a shout-out to my parents. Thank you for guiding me all these years. I look forward to sharing the fruit of my hard labor with you both.
