We had the good fortune of connecting with Beverly Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beverly, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Maintaining a healthy work life balance can be extremely challenging. The first year of my business, I was focused on growing my business and increasing my exposure. The byproduct of that goal, was a hectic pace.

Over the years, I’ve made my self care and wellness a priority. You cannot operate fully in your calling without taking care of your mind, body and spirit. Now, I purposely set aside “me time” into my schedule. It’s a non-negotiable now.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe fit, healthy, and confident women empower the world, inspire change, and raise the next generation of leaders. Having recovered from a divorce and doing the work to heal, I learned that it’s never easy to start over and navigate a new season. I created Genesys Fitness in 2015 with the goal of empowering and educating woman who want to achieve their wellness goals.

Genesys Fitness develops strategies to demolish old habits and embrace a healthy, whole lifestyle. It’s about letting go of the old habits and embracing the new ones. Through coaching, the foundation and a roadmap is created to reclaim your identity through customized coaching, fitness training, and strategies to build sustainable changes. We believe that by helping women rediscover who they are after suffering a loss, she will be empowered to become her ideal self – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My wellness programs focuses on a total makeover- the mind, body and spirit. From own journey, I discovered the importance of doing the work to identify and address the mental roadblocks. When my client is ready to the internal work, the fitness coaching becomes easy.

Over the last six years, I’ve learned the importance of goal setting and remaining resilient. As with all businesses, the challenge is always remaining relevant and seeking new clients. Many of experienced the shift in the midst of the pandemic. In the face of the pandemic, I had to shift from in person coaching to virtual. The transition was seamless because I started the shift in 2019. Facing challenges are unavoidable. What makes the difference is how we handle it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My hero, hype man, coach and inspiration is my mom. I’m so grateful for her support. There’s never been a time when she hasn’t supported me.

And I can’t thank my “sister circle” enough for being there for me. I have an amazing support system. A great system knows when to nurture you and when to motivate you on the down days.

Two books that are in my toolbox are, “The Memo” by Minda Harts and “Relational Intelligence” by Dr. Dharius Daniels. Both books provide insight on how to navigate our personal and professional relationships.
