We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernezia Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bernezia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
From the moment we wake up, we take risks. Every successful person became successful by taking a risk. I often ask myself “will i make enough money to support my family?” “Am i good enough?” Honestly, I’m willing to risk it all to find out, even if i fail.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Redefined Beauty is a hair salon that specializes natural hair care (locs, braids, twist etc). AmorysEssentials is my all natural product line that promotes healthy hair. Healthy hairs stems from a healthy scalp. Often, hairstylist tend to over look the health of the clients hair. This is not me. I care more about my client’s hair health over the hair style. I’m most proud of the fact that i set a goal for myself and i exceeded it. It was never in my plans to own two business, but I’m here. My faith, my work ethic, and me always wanting more for my children is what got me here. I can honestly say that the pandemic was a blessing in disguise. It allowed me the time to sit, to think, to plan. During this time, not only did it boost my clientele but it brought out the confidence that i needed to move my home based salon into a suite. This made transition to go a lot easier. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to budget. I’m real big on making a dollar go a long way! When it comes to hair, it’s not just something i do when i have time. This is my livelihood. This is my passion. I love it here!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to have fun, so Six flags is a must!!! We would definitely stop by Cirque Blu. Drink a few frozen daiquiris. Eat some seafood. Smoke the hookah and chill. On the weekend, slide through a good day party. And on Sunday, we brunch!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe much of my success and the credit for who i am today to my mother. As a single parent of 2, she did an amazing job. She still works hard every single day. I believe i inherited my work ethic from her. To my family, i have the most supportive family a girl could ask for. From the time i was a child, whether the accomplishment was big or small, it was worth being recognized for. To my business partner Abriana Wilson, back when Redefined Beauty was just an idea. We made it into our reality. To my inner circle, my best friend Shaundra Colbert who is an upcoming make up artist. My clients…for choosing me among so many others. I am forever grateful. The support i get week after week assures me that I am doing the right things.
