We had the good fortune of connecting with Beezy Vandross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beezy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had a very fast upbringing as a kid due to my mother’s diagnosis with Lupus. It was up to me to help take care of her and my little sister. Growing up, I always found new ways to provide for my family. The Hustler mentality was naturally in me. Even still, I wanted to be apart of something bigger than myself. Before deciding to do clothing, I came up with the Hustlers Wit Ambition brand. Its sometimes difficult to stay motivated in a small town where not many people understand the vision. Finally, in 2019, I visited a barbershop in Jackson, AL and noticed a heat press machine in the corner. It peaked my interest and inspired me to create my own apparel. I ran to the mall and got a bunch of t-shirts, shorts, and hats pressed up and began to push my brand. Since, my process has gotten a little more detailed. I consider my customer’s lifestyle while working with manufacturers and continue to learn more about the business as I go.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I started my brand Hustlers Wit Ambition back in 2016 I was apart of an organization called MG$ back in Jackson AL, where I was a rapper/rap singer I can break down the influences behind the rap singer which is The Late Nate Dogg, Z-Ro, and The Late Pimp C. Getting back into my brand, i worked offshore a lot i started young at the age of 19 coming from where I am from you basically Balling with a job like that I ended up getting hurt in 2019 didn’t know what I was going to do I was stressed depression and etc. So one particular day at my cousin barbershop I noticed he had a heat press machine in the back and i started liking some of the things he was producing my cousin is like a big brother to me but he’s more of a mentor to me than anything. I started learning how to use the machine, he wanted me to learn it & I did basically what he was planting into me was and is Entrepreneurship. So I had to make a choice after being hurt from job I have 2 options the Streets Or This so I decide to get into clothing with the name. To get to where I am now it was very tough and I’m built off pain so only thing i can say is that i love the journey losing my mother was the toughest I didn’t have a great relationship with her but as i got older I did she passed away when I was 20 it broke me mentally physically and spiritually I didn’t know what to do over the years. I just want to show the world where I come from and be that Golden Star for my Community to make a Difference in the area and give the people HOPE
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be Honest I really can’t say because I’m always working. maybe one day when I’m Rich until then I’m Dream Chasing
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I’d like to acknowledge God in everything that I do. My creator blessed me with many talents to make this all possible. My grandmother, Jo Ann Garner, deserves a lot of credit for taking me in and raising me to be the man I am today. My brand would be nothing without the friends, family, colleagues, etc. that continue to shop and support me. Next, my spiritual teacher Angel, taught me the importance in believing and trusting in myself. Lastly, my kids keep me motivated to grind no matter what.
