We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Higgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from a combination of life circumstances, passion, and a deep-seated love for all things related to weddings. After being laid off during the COVID pandemic, I decided to invest in my dream rather than return to the corporate world. As a former corporate recruiter, I already had strong skills in organization, communication, and attention to detail. These skills naturally transitioned into wedding planning, an industry I fell in love with while planning my own intimate wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

I realized that I wanted to help other couples experience the beauty and joy of a micro wedding—an intimate celebration with 50 guest or less. My journey is fueled by a passion for love, creativity, and a desire to create stress-free, meaningful weddings that are unforgettable. Starting my own business allowed me to blend my professional skills with my obsession for love, making every moment of a couple’s special day filled with joy and intimacy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets you apart from others?

What truly sets Little Southern Micro Weddings apart is our unwavering commitment to creating deeply personalized, intimate weddings for guest counts of 50 or less, celebrating the essence of love and connection. For couples seeking an inclusive package that takes the planning off their plate, we offer everything from decor, floral, and cake to furniture and much more. Unlike larger weddings, we focus on the details that matter most to our couples, ensuring that each wedding is a unique reflection of their love story. Our approach is rooted in meticulous organization, heartfelt creativity, and a genuine passion for making each moment unforgettable. We’re not just planning weddings; we’re crafting memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

What are you most proud of or excited about?

I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built around Little Southern Micro Weddings. We’ve been able to create a space where couples feel supported and understood, allowing them to enjoy their wedding day without the stress that often comes with planning such a significant event. I’m also excited about the growing recognition of micro weddings as a meaningful, beautiful way to celebrate love. There’s something truly special about intimate gatherings, and I’m thrilled to be at the forefront of this movement.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy?

My journey to where I am today was anything but easy. After being laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to take a leap of faith and invest in my dream of creating a wedding planning business that reflected my own values and passions. There were many challenges along the way, from navigating the uncertainties of starting a business during a global crisis to learning the ins and outs of the wedding industry. However, each obstacle strengthened my resolve and taught me invaluable lessons about perseverance, adaptability, and the power of community.

How did you overcome the challenges?

I overcame the challenges by leaning into my support system, staying focused on my goals, and being open to learning every step of the way. My husband, Thomas, was a constant source of encouragement, reminding me to keep pushing forward even when things got tough. Additionally, I had incredible mentors in Mallory and Cassie from Wild Social Micro Weddings, who generously shared their knowledge and guided me through the complexities of the industry. Their mentorship was crucial in helping me build a strong foundation for my business.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of authenticity. Staying true to my vision and values has allowed me to create a brand that resonates with couples who share the same appreciation for intimate, meaningful celebrations. I’ve also learned that challenges are opportunities in disguise—they push you to grow, innovate, and become more resilient. Lastly, I’ve come to understand the importance of community; surrounding yourself with supportive, like-minded individuals can make all the difference in your journey.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I want the world to know that Little Southern Micro Weddings is more than just a wedding planning business—it’s a celebration of love in its most genuine form. My story is one of passion, perseverance, and the belief that even the smallest moments can hold the greatest significance. Whether it’s an intimate ceremony with close family and friends or a micro wedding in a beautiful destination, my goal is to create experiences that are as unique and special as the couples themselves. Little Southern Micro Weddings is a testament to the idea that love, in all its simplicity and grandeur, deserves to be celebrated in a way that feels authentic and true to each couple’s story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting the area, I’d plan a week full of fun, culture, and amazing food—highlighting some of my favorite spots in and around Atlanta. Relaxating at Chateau Elan, Exploring East Atlanta Village (EAV) to spend the afternoon wandering the streets, checking out the local shops and murals. Then, we’d stop for lunch at Thai & Sushi EAV—one of my favorite spots for delicious, fresh sushi with a twist of Thai flavors. Make our way to Chattahoochee Food Works. This food hall has an amazing variety of vendors, so we’d indulge in everything from gourmet burgers to hand-rolled sushi. Drinks at Blue Cantina, a lively spot for Latin-inspired cocktails and food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shoutout to my amazing husband, Thomas Higgins, for always inspiring me to keep pushing towards my dreams, even when the road got tough. Your unwavering support means the world to me, and I’m so grateful to have you by my side.

And to Mallory and Cassie from Wild Social Micro Weddings, thank you for being the best mentors a girl could ask for. You’ve taught me so much, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without your guidance and wisdom. I’m beyond blessed to have you both in my corner!
