We had the good fortune of connecting with Beau Nettles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beau, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Montgomery, Alabama. A very historical city for reasons that I’m not to proud of. My background which basically working with my Dad taught me the value of a dollar and having your own. Also that you get what you work for, as well as hard work pays off. It made me self sufficient and also groomed me to be the hardworking provider I am today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m excited to show there are still very creative musicians in the south. A lot of the music is recycled or reincarnated, Im definitely a breath of fresh air to the music industry.. I’m still a independent artist and it isn’t easy with the major markets but it’s something about me when I get on stage whether it 25 people or 250 I’m definitely putting on a show. Most is all I have learned stay true to yourself.. I put my heart into my art. For example, to me the beats are the canvas . My lyrics are the paint on the canvas to show a lyrical picture like a ghetto Picasso. Only painting what he sees or envisions through his own eyes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would give the historical tour of the civil rights movement that came straight through the heart of my home town. Rosa Parks museum, The slave Fountain, Dexter Ave Baptist church (MLK Preached) and also the Civil rights memorial. If a different outlook on like to see all those bodies hanging just knowing those are your ancestors or just play ole innocent people. Then I would take my friend to my cousin’s restaurant Jazzys Eats n Treats . My favorite is red velvet chicken and waffles. VYBZ Brunch, Texas Roadhouse & Stockyard grill are definitely the best eating spots in my personal opinion. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is definitely a vibe but bring plenty of sliced bread bc the ducks aren’t as nice as the scenic views. We just opened a white water rafting park so that would be cool to check out. Dry off and make a casino run Wind Creek or Victoryland.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out OG Rolla . The first producer to tell me how talented I was. First to show the the professional way to go about distributing my music. Most of all he still haven’t changed on me til this day. I would like to thank Henry Terry Choir director at George Washington Carver high in Montgomery Alabama for giving me the basics to harmonizing, singing scales , playing the piano, and improving my overall ear for music.
