We had the good fortune of connecting with Baziel Pearce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Baziel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has generally served as a catalyst for me in my life and career. When it comes to making a decision, for me it is riskier to do nothing then it is to take action. For example, when I conceived the concept and ideas for my company I found that starting the company was less of a risk than having the idea and doing nothing to bring it into fruition. Similarly when it came time to make plans after high school, making the decision to attend college was less risky than immediately joining the workforce. For me the biggest risks lie in doing nothing. Then I’m stuck with all the what-ifs, could haves, and should haves and I do not want to risk living my adult life with a lot of those hanging over my head. So, when it comes to determining the role taking risks has played in my life, I will say I have largely avoided taking risks by forging ahead with the ideas that come into my head and heart.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company, Pearce Learning Tech (PLT) is uniquely qualified to introduce young children to coding through robotics. We work with preschools, daycares, schools, churches, community organizations and other interested groups to prepare traditionally underserved and excluded groups for the future, which is digital.
What sets PLT apart is that we begin working with children as young as 3 and do it in a way that is age appropriate and supported by research. We are passionate about our calling and what we do! We follow national guidance on using technology with children and believe that early, appropriate, experiences go far to diminish all sorts of stereotypes about who works in technology and what they look like.
I’m most excited about where we are going and the positive and long-lasting impact we will have on children and their families.
Getting to where we are business-wise has been a long road, however any challenges were reduced through the guidance, mentorship, and encouragement of the support system I have. In addition to that I look for the patterns, where I have something I want or need and it all works out in a way that I can only attribute to the manifestation of my faith and my trust that this is work my creator has laid out for me.
What I want anyone to know is that I believe wholeheartedly in what we do and I know it will have an impact on those it reaches. I’d like the world to know that the road has been long and may be longer still, but I’m going to continue on it to get to where I think it should be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d hope my friend would visit in the spring or fall for a week long trip = we’d visit Centennial Olympic Park in the late afternoon and run through the fountains. There would be at least a night or two’s stay in a Yurt at Stone Mountain Park, where we would walk the nature trails in the morning then drive to the city for a brunch with bottomless mimosas at Negril. Next we’d go to Ponce City Market or Krog Street Market for something Atlanta-y and then to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for live music at dusk. We’d leave our yurts for one of the two or three bedroom hotel rooms at the Georgian Terrace, so we could walk across the street to a concert or play at the Fox. The next day would be to recover, so we’d order in and just chat. Then we’d pack up and head to ride one of the buses that do the north Georgia wine tours for the day. By the end we’d be so tired, but happy and full.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Liverpool is the team my family supports in the English Premier League, their slogan is “You’ll never walk alone.” This shoutout is dedicated those who walked before me to prepare the way and for those who walk alongside me with their efforts, support, love, encouragement, and time: my sister-in-law Dionne, each of my five sisters, my mom and dad, my mother-in-law, my girlfriends, my children, and the man who weathers it all with me, my husband, Ben.
