We had the good fortune of connecting with Bayasa Batsaikhan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bayasa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking takes purpose and effort because if you are comfortable where you are and where you are heading currently, what would push you to take that risk? I think about risk taking as a lesson, whatever risk you take and whether you have negative outcomes or positive outcomes is a lesson that will make you better in the long run. You figure out what works and what does not. I have taken risks all my life from applying to graduate school last minute to dedicating 10+ hours to content creation to spending money on new skills such as pilot training, and establishing rates for my brand deals and styling clients. Not all the risks I have taken have ended the way I want it to, but it taught me to do better the next time. Risks are opportunities with consequences.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently in the process of creating my own clothing line. I have had such curiosity for fashion and how clothing and shoes are constructed. Whenever I get sad or angry about something that happened, I would drive over to Finish Line and just stare at the shoes or start watching fashion shows online to feel better. I love to turn clothing that is meant for one part of the body into something else I can wear on another part of my body as well as deconstruction to reconstruct.

My style is not consistent because I believe everyone should experiment with clothes, this led to many weird stares, people telling me I could pull it off and people discourage themselves that they cannot, which I disagree with. Establishing and finding my sense of fashion is very difficult because you have dominant trends everywhere and everyone starts to dress like that, but I decide not to and that causes backlash.

There have been many obstacles and are still obstacles in my way. My art and work does not bring sustainable outcome yet, so I am currently a part-time graduate student with part-time jobs, which loses me time to create more creative content.

I have many layers to who I am from being an immigrant, student, minority, woman, and many more. These layers all have their pros and cons, but play a role to defining who I am. Accepting this reality, but also accepting it is not who you are as a whole is a lesson I learned. People will try to define you, but truly you define yourself.

My goal is not to be the inspiration for little girls everywhere to achieve what I achieve. My goal is to inspire and pull out creative flows of little girls and everyone to do what they want to do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
