Meet Barbara Wells | Pro Powerlifter, Founder of Relentless Power Systems, and Co-Founder of The Syndicate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barbara, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I am RELENTLESS! That is exactly why I chose the name for my team and brand. If I have a goal to achieve something, I will do everything I can to make sure I achieve it. I had to learn over the years to not give energy to the things I can’t control, and that was very hard for me. I pray for guidance, protection, and favor…and I get to work. I am organized and self motivated, and it helps keep me on track.

What should our readers know about your business?
I founded Relentless Power Systems in 2017 to begin one of my goals to teach and motivate others in Powerlifting. I coach lifters on technique and help them get stronger to prepare them to compete. I also work with people who just want to learn how to lift weights properly and live a healthier lifestyle. I didn’t have a strong support system when I wanted to change my life, so I wanted to create a space for others to have that.
It has not been easy, but it doesn’t feel like work when you love what you do. I push myself and others outside of their comfort zone. It is scary. Lifting weights can be scary, especially in powerlifting because you are pushing max attempts, but my goal is to teach mental strength along with physical. I talk to myself alot lol – affirmations when I am lifting and pep talks when I am anxious about a training session.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my all around experience. I am a competitor ranked top 10 in the world and and compete several times a year. I am a coach to athletes across the country. I am a referee and have taken time to study the sport and learn the rules. I am a meet director, so I host events for others to compete. I am not sure there are many others who do ALL of those things simultaneously.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being fairly new to Georgia with a pretty strict schedule, I haven’t visited a lot of places lol. I would take them to places I like that are laid back and easy to access. Some of my favorite places are The Battery, Chicago Pizza, and of course we are going to the gym! I’d be open to try some new places, so suggestions are welcomed!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful for all of the amazing people I have met during my journey. I have been doing this for over 10 years (first competition was 2013) and I thank God that I am still able to be competitive in such a grueling sport. I want to say thank you to my husband, Gabe Wells, for being so supportive and encouraging! As my friend for years, he always motivated and believed in me. We share a passion for powerlifting, so now we get to train together too! I also have team members who have trained with me along the way that will always have a special place in my heart because they have shared the ups and downs with me.
