We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Cox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, why did you pursue a creative career?
The artistic/creative career actually pursued me! Every since I was a little girl, I would hear songs while sleeping. Even though I was very very shy and tried to avoid this gift because of the hatred and anxiety that comes with it, God keeps pouring songs into me. My passion is to release each song as someone’s soul is attached to each message. I am not just a songwriter but a messenger from God.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am grateful to God that he demonstrates in me daily, my purpose as a Singer, Songwriter and Recording Artist as well as an Author. I am not an entertainer but a “True Worshipper!” “I am an “Anointed Psalmist!” My purpose, (given by God) is to heal, encourage, inspire, and save souls through melodies from Heaven. I am not sent to compete but to proclaim the great commission through music. I am an artist who has been pushed in the back scenes. I am very seldom called upon but through the tears of deception, God keeps pouring songs into me! My brand has a name given to me as a child. For, it was then that I heard the sounds that will continue to ring through the entire world. I am an artist who has released 50 songs in 25 years of recording music. I have written 12 children’s books and 5 inspirational books. I am the owner of a book publishing company and I will be relaunching my radio and television platform, ( in the name of JESUS). As for my first passion, God sings through me and retrieves the sound by streaming on all digital platforms. God did it! I can never take credit for the brand utilized for the glory of God. I give God all the credit! TO GOD BE THE GLORY !

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in my city, Tyler, Texas is Cheddar’s Restaurant or FD’s. Also, we would worship together at my local church, New Days Community Church with my Pastor, Frederick D. Berry, Sr. Later, we would have dinner at our home which I share with my blessed husband, Galen Parker. God did that too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God, my parents, Frank and Cozetta Cox, my husband, Galen Parker, my children, Shardae and Jerome Jr., my siblings and family and friends. I could not be who I am today without the village that God fashioned in my journey called, life.
