We had the good fortune of connecting with B. Elaine Dorsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi B. Elaine, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
One of the most important things I’ve done as a parent in terms of an impact is literally finishing what I start. In life it’s easy to give up when things get tough or if the plan doesn’t line up the way we hope. I must remember that my children are not only watching but learning from me. They must understand the value in counting up the cost, committing to what they start and consistently finishing strong!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always had a heart for ministry, entrepreneurship and being a creative of some sort. Around 2016, I had an idea to start a small business and create T-shirts that share a positive image, and later lead up to creating other merchandise. I’m very meticulous about my work, so for me it wasn’t an easy start. I was challenged with branding, funding, fabrics and the list goes on. Needless to say, I didn’t know how to get started so I decided to wait a while.

Mid 2018 I started again with a lot more prayer, tenacity, research and vision. During that time I bounced a lot of ideas off my husband because my mind would be flooded with designs. It was almost like I experienced a “creators block” at times. From there, one day a slogan came to mind called “Jesus Is My Brand”. That was it! My husband said start with that one design and offer it in multiple colors. After this, I went ahead and created a design, trademarked it and the rest is history.

Through it all I’ve learned that as an entrepreneur you can’t worry about what everybody else is doing. Focus on whatever God has given your business to do and flourish in that. Another one is procrastination; it’ll set you further back every time. See, I struggled for years with working to create the perfect business and brand that led me nowhere. So, when I look at “Jesus Is My Brand” it represents my lifestyle, character, branded by the image of Christ. It is my hope that when people shop this brand, that they experience the overwhelming love of God.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d love for my best friend to come in town and of course safely hang out, especially due to the residue of Covid. I’m a new Mom so I don’t really get out as much, however I’d say let’s check out some cool spots in Georgia! We’d definitely enjoy fun in the sun for a nice picnic or bbq at either Centennial or Piedmont Park. Play a few rounds of Top Golf and Paint Ball. Catch a tan at White Waters and Six Flags. We would also take some time to visit the Aquarium, Coca Cola Museum and of course the Civil Rights Museum. Later, hit a few rooftop lounges in the city for some authentic foods and live music. One other restaurant that a friend of mine told me about is “Roc South”. Food was absolutely delicious, so that would definitely be on the books. If the bestie wants to check out a movie, we can try Studio Movie Grille for dinner and a movie. We could get some fitness in and ride bikes on the belt-line and to top it off, take a day to relax at Jeju spa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband; Bernard Dorsey. Thanks for being my #1 supporter and for always pushing me to be better!
