Meet Ayzha Jones | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayzha Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ayzha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are important… calculated risks, that is. I once heard a Denzel Washington speech where he stated “In order to get something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.” Although there is comfort in our comfort zone, there is relief in stepping out of it. Risks play a major role in my career. The many risks I’ve taken include; applying to work with Miami Swim week, with no prior production experience, and leaving my corporate job to join the bridal industry. These decisions were frightening, to say the least, but have been overly rewarding. I will continue to take risks as I grow my brand and expand into the bridal industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Afro-Latina fashion designer. I design one of one garments. Specifically, event and evening wear. I am self-taught and have learned by trial and error. Each piece I produce is made by me from sketch and pattern to final garment. Being a self-taught fashion designer is far from easy, but proving society wrong is beginning to be one of my favorite things. Not only have I been working on my debut collection, which will debut at my own fashion show/fundraiser in July 2022. I will be showing at NYFW in 2023. Some of the many lessons I’ve learned are to take advice and criticism with a grain of salt and be consistent. Be consistent with learning and trying and be consistent with believing in your abilities. My ultimate goal is to create a space/platform for minorities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely start the week with a picnic at Piedmont Park, then a walk on the beltline. We’d grab dinner and drinks at the Garden room. Over the next couple of days, we’d visit the High Museum, Black Wall Street, bowlero, and even try to catch an Atlanta United game. We’d have to eat at Sun in my belly, Cafe intermezzo, The Vortex, and Toast on Lenox.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my family. My father is my hero. He has always worked hard to not only support us but to ensure we are able to reach our goals and have a shot at an amazing life. He has set the standard, not only for any man in my life but for myself. He inspires me daily. My mother is my wonder woman. On Valentine’s day, 2021 she was in a severe car accident and suffers from a traumatic brain injury. Even while going through rehabilitation and several therapies, she continues to remain strong and selfless. My brothers are my rock. For them, I push hard to reach my goals, so they know the sky is not the limit, the moon and beyond is.
