We had the good fortune of connecting with Aysia Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aysia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
AK Social kind of just fell in my lap. After I graduated college, I started working for a beauty brand which is now the largest black-owned beauty brand in Target. I was able to witness up close and personal what was required to build a powerful brand. Once I started taking on more tasks for managing the brand, I realized I could do this for multiple brands. The rest is history!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
AK Social is the Powerhouse for personal branding. We help unknown experts transform into industry authorities.

We started only branding businesses but as the years went by we gained more clarity on who we were and what solution we wanted to solve in the market. We realized that people do business with people they like, know, and trust.

We want people to understand that personal branding is soul work and starts offline. Branding is a life-long investment with endless returns. The time to start is NOW!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a D-girl to my core. Detroit has gone through its own rebrand and renaissance and it has been beautiful to witness up close.

I would start with a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts considering I am a creative at heart. After the museum, we would have dinner at the infamous Savannah Blue and then end the night at one of my favorite rooftop lounges, The Monarch Club.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give my mom all the credit! She invested $1000 into my very first Macbook so I could have access to the Adobe suite and everything I needed to have a successful creative agency. It’s an honor to be able to pay her back and then some now.
