We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayanna Bunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayanna, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Manhattan, New York. Our mother in Brooklyn raised my older sister and me. I remember my mom working so hard to keep a roof over our heads. She sold Avon and would work all day, every day. We grew up in the second-worst set of projects in Brooklyn. We were exposed to immense poverty, gang violence, and some pretty unsavory individuals. While this made life rough at times, it also served as motivation. I was determined to do great things with my life in a world that seemed to have already determined my fate. My goal not to become a “statistic” pushed me to excel in school and in life. My path soon led to a career in social work after accepting that I had the potential to change the lives of others in situations similar to my childhood.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bamboo Cloud Hookah is a line of premium hookahs and shisha that offers explosive flavors and a hookah experience unlike any other. We also provide a mobile service that includes the rental and setup of hookahs. The Bamboo Cloud Hookah experience is unlike any other because of the flavor profiles we offer and the smoothness of the hookahs. The entire process from the flavors of the shisha the actual hookah has been tailored to provide an enjoyable, hassle-free, memorable experience. Our flavors reflect my love for the art of hookah smoking. When I was growing up, I was always told that you can taste the difference when a meal is prepared with love. As I got older, I learned exactly what that meant and how that felt. This is why I know that Bamboo Cloud Hookah creates memories and brings friends closer because the brand was created by and is covered with love. As it relates to the Bamboo Cloud Hookah brand, I am most proud of the growth and integrity of the products. When I started Bamboo Cloud Hookah, I dealt with some of the worst hookah experiences. Broken seals created bad connections, shisha that had no flavor, and smoke that would burn even the most experienced indulger’s throat. Everything felt so thrown together with no care and no attention to detail. My goal in creating Bamboo Cloud Hookah was to change that and I have with these products. The flavors we offer feel like the melody of your favorite song dancing around in your heart. The entire experience is as smooth as jazz playing as the sun sets over your favorite view of the city. Bamboo Cloud Hookah is about changing your hookah experience, creating memories, and blowing clouds with your friends.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start the day with a workout at my favorite gym, Effect Fitness. Then we’d stop for breakfast at Jouvert Caribbean Kitchen, their pancakes are amazing! Next we would head to Eklipse Boutique and do some shopping and have a few drinks. After that, we would stop by Spreading the Health Cafe’ for a healthy lunch. We would end the day at APT 4B where we would enjoy their amazing menu and craft cocktails.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
