We had the good fortune of connecting with Avnah Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avnah, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risk in my career has always been something that has moved my brand forward in a sense. Although some risks may not pay off many will and those risk will actually get you noticed on another level. As a designer I am always taking risk. A lot of those risk have been a great outcome but even if not, I always look at any failure in risk taking as an opportunity to learn. You have to be willing to take risk and experiment with new ideas because that is how you grow and learn.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business AVNAH Collection is a fashion brand that specializes in high fashion and couture designs. I believe my creative aesthetics is what sets me apart from others. This has gotten me many placements and opportunities just by stepping out the box and doing my own thing. It was not easy getting into the fashion industry and I had to learn a lot on my own as many didn’t disclose a lot of information to me. So I just continued to work hard and figure a lot out on my own. What I am most excited about is the new extension under the company umbrella. I have launched a product line by the name AVNAH Organics and it is a natural product line for hair, skin and body. We have just gained online placement with Walmart.com and Amazon.com. I’m very proud of the launch and excited to be on this journey as not only as a Fashion Designer but Master Cosmetologist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
All of my friends know that I’m such a home body but if they wanted to go out I would take them to Oceanaire, High Museum, STK and back to my house. I really am just a mellow, stay at home, hit the beach or travel out the country kind of person.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I reflect on the support of my business, there are so many people to thank. I first want to thank God for the gifts and blessings He’s appointed and anointed me with. I also want to thank my mother, my husband, mother-in-law and even my children who are my immediate prayer partners as well as my encouragers when I’m burnt out or low. We sometimes go so hard in our careers that we burn ourselves out or want to give up. These are my Intercessors that step in and pray, build my spirit up and push me to keep going. I am so thankful for the photographer’s, the makeup artist, models and hair stylist that I’ve been blessed to work with. They all play a big part in my career. We all contribute and we all grow.
