We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Hart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ava, how do you think about risk?
Taking risk when you don’t know the outcome is always going to make someone nervous but what if it is the best outcome? I took a huge risk when I moved to Atlanta knowing only one person to begin an acting career at 26 when I didn’t have experience in it before that. This risk paid off in more ways than one. I have grown, made great friends, I met my husband the first week I was house searching, and I now how a full resume that continues to grow from acting since moving to Atlanta.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The coolest part about becoming an actor was discovering all the creativity that comes with it. You become your own boss, you have to work hard, study hard, practice, self promote, get out there and network. Everything about it made me uncomfortable to start with. I almost fainted the first few acting classes I had to go in front of people. I think I may have been drawn to the career because it was something that might challenge me to step outside of my self and my box. It 100 percent did just that and I love it. It has not been easy, this career comes with many competitors, comes with challenges of low income because you don’t know when you might get your next job. We never get feedback from jobs we don’t book so it’s a constant grind of learning to believe in yourself and believing the right jobs will come.
I am still striving to do even more, to inspire others to feel something from my work and to inspire others to know they can pursue things they love and make them part of their life no matter the time, the age, the experience.
I am at the point where I have a great agent representing me across the board, Helen Wells Agency. I am auditioning weekly. I am booking and I am continuing to grow.
I have learned many lessons. The best one was actually believing in my work and myself and worrying less about what others thought about my work because I am here booking things but I am not going to be right for everything and that is okay! What I am right for is coming my way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh boy. I have spent so much of my life in the service industry that I actually don’t go out a lot my self in Atlanta because when you work late nights and deal with people all night you get worn out from it, haha. I also travel out of town when I get time off. I will give this my best shot! So I would take them see some hiking areas at some point maybe .Sweetwater creek or Stone Mountain. I would take them out to eat in East Atlanta, one of my favorite places to grab dinner is Gaja there. I would probably take my friend to a show at the music venue/bar the Earl. Atlanta Botanical gardens would be a great daytime activity.
This has me thinking I need to get out in Atlanta more!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly I don’t give myself enough credit and I’m going to give myself credit on this one. I have moments that led to this. I helped a great friend out on a movie set (Burns Burns) and after watching it and the actors I felt an instant connection to the creativity of it all. A few months later I made a move to Atlanta to pursue acting without a resume in hand. From there I worked on building an acting reel. I started doing films pro-bono taking classes and networking. I started doing commercials and that has been something that I excelled in.
