We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Dawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
A quote that has stuck with me since I’ve seen it is “You don’t need a backup plan, you need a current plan.” I saw this as a tweet by an artist on Twitter (Tyce Green). Since seeing that quote, I’ve applied it to my life as an artist and the mindset of making a living as an artist. I think many people have the idea of asking me what my backup plan is in case it “doesn’t work out”. But to me, that mindset is already setup for failure. With my current plan, I believe that I will make it happen no matter how long it takes and as long as I remain determined.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d say a lot of the work I get and the connections I make, are from my Senior year in high school. I did a program with the Alliance Theatre with 20 other high school students around Georgia. We worked with Director, Patrick McColery and Author Pearl Cleage to create our own piece and letter to society. After that opportunity, I continued auditioning for Programs and taking classes. I constantly asked for more opportunities throughout the year and during college, I interned there for about 2 years. I constantly made myself known to them and it got to the point where I was seen as reliable, has a plethora of knowledge about the space, and eager to do more. Once graduated from Georgia State University in May 2020 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Theatre Performance and minor in Spanish, I began teaching at the Alliance Theatre as a teaching artist and am also a contracted stage manager for them. I also am a teacher at Eagles Landing Dance Center where I teach Tap, and a acting instructor for Music, Acting, and Dance, Inc. Aside from Teaching, I continue to audition for roles on stage and on camera. Once the pandemic happened, I started posting my dance videos on social media more. Because of that, I have been asked to use my talents to choreograph and or be in movies, music videos, and musicals. I still have a ways to go but the connections I have made so far with the Alliance, the promotion of myself on social media, and most importantly the investment in myself with private lessons, masterclasses, etc. I will be a very known name soon.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have no specific order but I would take my friend to a plethora of places here.

Tacos and Tequilas (Ponce)
The Battery
The Alliance Theatre
High Museum
Happy Karaoke
Colony Square
Piedmont Park
National Center for Civil and Human Rights
Havana Club ATL
Eclipse Di Luna
and if they come the weekend of this one time a month event, we’d go to Perreo404

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout-out my family for their constant support in my dreams: especially my eldest sister, Brentney. Because of her, I saw a way for me to make a living with what I love to do and what makes me happy.
