We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Ricks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

I try to approach risk from a different perspective, from the perspective of what if the risk you’re scared of taking turns out exactly how you envisioned or better. Risk-taking is a touchy area for a lot of people and we encourage our customers to take risks. You will never know how great something can play out until you decide you’re going to start playing. Risk-taking has personally allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and also forced me to face many fears. I believe chances make champions and if there is no risk, there is no story.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kreate Clothing Co. is a brand that I started in 2020 due to wanting to express myself but also to help motivate and inspire others to unconsciously do the same. The meaning behind KREATE is simple but relatable. We want to see others win, we want to see others go Kreate their dreams, not wait and follow them. We honor those who started with nothing but hopes and dreams. We are most proud of the impact that the brand has had more than anything. We love to hear when a customer wears our product and feels inspired to go kreate in their line of work. We have got to where we are today through trial and error. It has never been an easy road and there were no handouts; simply hard work, lessons, and blessings. We have overcome the challenges over time by continuing to keep going. This thing is a marathon, not a sprint and we feel as if we have what it takes to be in the fashion industry for a very long time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go visit some dope clothing stores/vintage thrift shops such as WishATL, GodisDope, and Ragarama. We would also head over to Atlantic Station to hang out and enjoy great shopping, amazing food, beautiful scenery, and numerous other activities. Lastly, we would take a quick trip to the SCAD Museum of Art and Fashion to enjoy the beautiful artwork of some of the world’s greatest creatives.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and close friends deserve so much credit and recognition. They have supported me in ways that are hard to put into words. From encouragement to constructive criticism, they have always supported my dreams and aspirations. For that, I am truly grateful and forever indebted.
