We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Prolific home improvement is a full-service home improvement company in Atlanta, Georgia. We specialize in home maintenance, mini renovations, and custom projects, with an emphasis on fences, decks, and accent walls.
Our attention to detail, dedication to quality, and desire to track innovative methods set us apart. In the time of DIY, we are true professionals who always look for ways to offer the best quality of service. For me, that starts with research. I spend a great deal of time researching my craft. There are always new methods emerging in what I do. Whether it’s new tools or materials, we are always looking for more efficient and sustainable techniques for a seamless finish on all of our projects.

I grew up in a single-parent household and always had a strong work ethic. As a kid, I would go door to door offering lawn care and gardening services to my neighbors. I’ve always known entrepreneurship was my path, and I wanted to do something where I could be helpful and creative. So, carpentry was perfect for me. I worked in facilities management in larger organizations for many years, allowing me to diversify my craft.

I conceptualized Prolific back in 2014, but it wasn’t until the pandemic hit in 2020 that I leaned into my entrepreneurship journey. I realized that it was now or never. Surprisingly, launching a home improvement company in a pandemic was perfect timing. Being forced to stay home allowed many to evaluate how they were or weren’t caring for their homes.

However, the launch did not come without challenges. As a result of COVID-19, materials and lumber were scarce. Obstacles like this are where project management skills come into play. To avoid delays, I had to get flexible on scheduling projects and think outside the box for garnering resources.

These setbacks offered a significant takeaway for me as an entrepreneur. I learned to focus on the things that I can control. Specifically, customer service practices, building a supportive team, and implementing streamlining systems, making my job easier.

I am proud of the traction happening with Prolific and know we have much more to do. Our brand relies on the core value of impact over legacy. Legacies are great, but I want to focus on making a change within my community. I am proud to do work that helps homeowners add value and equity to their homes. I also want to continue to advocate for the importance of trades, and maintaining this industry. The negative stigmas surrounding trade work have caused a dire shortage, especially among Millennials and Gen Z. There is power in trades. Not only does it offer self-sufficiency, but there is also pride in craftsmanship.

Whether your trade is in the beauty industry or construction and contracting, there’s humanity in taking care of something beyond yourself. Trade work is about being sustainable and looking after your community and the structures you all rely on to continue to live.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family and close friends have been crucial in my story. From encouraging me to leap into my business, to assisting me with admin and scheduling, my family and close friends have been a huge support.
