Meet Austin Burke | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Burke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Austin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Creative expression has always brought me happiness. It’s what makes me feel the most fulfilled. I love the process of creating something that can impact myself and others. Art gives me a child-like joy that never fades, and it comes in many different forms. Whether it’s photography, film, animation, music, or culinary arts – they all bring that feeling out of me. I appreciate photography specifically because it freezes moments in time and can tell stories through those images. I love the heck out of that. Telling stories through photography and making moments look as stunning as possible is the art I love the most. That’s why I chose it as my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is focused on photography and videography. What sets my work apart from others is how I use light, color, and cinematic values. I see the world in a unique way, and I incorporate that into my work constantly. This allows me to keep a consistent style with my art which is what I’m most proud of. My goal is for people to recognize my work without having to see my name attached to it.
I got to where I am today by learning from others, networking, and lots of practice. I wouldn’t say it’s been easy, but it’s been a ton of fun. Of course, some days are better than others but I appreciate it all because I always learn something new and improve every day.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned on my journey is to fall in love with the process. I always find myself wanting to fast forward to the part in life where I have it all figured out. However, that part doesn’t exist if you think about it. There will always be new challenges to be had and new goals to reach, so finding enjoyment in the journey is key. If I do that, I’ll always be happy with where I am currently, while still striving for my goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start at the Interlock in midtown. There’re some great bars, restaurants, and activities to do in that area. We’d probably hang out at Puttshack and then grab some food and drinks at Drawbar. Next, we have to go to the Beltine by ponce to ride the electric scooters around and enjoy the weather. We might as well grab some Ice Cream from Jeni’s since that’s nearby too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my family! Being the youngest of three siblings, I was able to receive guidance from my older sister and brother, along with being raised in a healthy environment thanks to my parents. They gave me the foundation I needed to succeed and pursue my goals. I owe a lot to my family for sure.
