Meet Aushailene | Writer, Actress, & Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aushailene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aushailene, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has become a natural part of my life. I’m constantly placing myself in uncomfortable situations. All to pursue my dreams. I think about my intentions before I take any risks, and I meditate on my desired outcome. What do I want? Will I be okay if I don’t get it? I ask my spirit guides for advice. Will this risk help me grow and evolve in some way? If the answer is yes, I throw caution to the wind and show up for myself and my desires. I transmute my fear into courage, and in my quest to make my wishes come true, I take the first step into the unknown.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a writer, actress, and music artist originally from California. Now I am based in Atlanta, which has an ever-growing community of artists like myself. As an artist, I set such high goals for myself in my career. So much that sometimes I don’t even realize how far I’ve come. Often times, my friends have to remind me of my successes. Only recently have I realized that I am truly manifesting my dreams with sheer willpower and determination.
I have worked alone as a creative for so many years now because I felt like there was no one I could trust with my art. Now, as I partner with other Atlanta creatives on certain projects, I have reached a milestone of self-accomplishment and agency. This allows me to accept genuine support in the pursuit of my dreams.
That being said, I am currently collaborating with my friend Aaron Roth, who goes by the artist name Real Soon, to produce my debut EP. I met Aaron in the Atlanta music scene. He is an incredibly talented bassist who has been living in the city for years! Back in October, when I played at Mini FEST ATL, he played bass and keys in my band. My goal with this EP is to show people exactly who I am as an artist, and it is so comforting to work with someone who understands my unique visions and concepts. Aaron and I have sessions on Monday nights, and we produce for hours on end, creating and experimenting with new ways to make music. Some of our favorite discoveries are the toy piano, the Korg MS-20 Mini semi-modular analog synthesizer, and what we like to call the violin bass! All of which you will hear on the EP.
In terms of film, I have been collaborating with my friend and local filmmaker Anthony Hudson. I have worked with Anthony many times to create videos for my music. He has such an amazing work ethic, it’s hard not to be inspired when we work together! Now, we have decided to write and produce our own short film! As an actress and writer, this has given me so much freedom! I am so used to molding myself into various roles and characters for auditions. Now, I get to write and star in something that truly means something to me and aligns with my values as an actress. Anthony and I both have similar tastes, and we have been able to co-write a script that highlights themes we both find important and inspiring. We are set to produce the film this year, and I am so excited to see our story come to life!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d tell them to check out some of our local music venues, like Terminal West. Or to go see a play at one of our local theaters, like the Alliance Theatre.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to all of my friends and family who have supported me along my journey.
