We had the good fortune of connecting with Aura Muir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aura, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I became an entrepreneur since I was very young. I became a mother at 17 years of age. These were very difficult times and I had the need to provide a better future for my daughter. That is where I started my first business; making the impossible possible. I wanted to be the best example of improvement for my daughter and provide her with a better future.
At the beginning, many doors were closed to us and there were many difficult moments. But I never lost faith in what he was doing. Love and perseverance will lead you to achieve impossible things.
Life has rewarded me again with my husband and my other two children. It is there where, out of love for them, I discovered my interest in the art of pastry, which today has become my passion.
I started making cakes for my children’s birthdays. I wanted their cakes to be special and to see their excited faces when they saw that I made the cake they asked for.
I am a self-taught person so I taught myself. Afterwards I have taken some courses to continue training and learn new techniques.
the way way no
It has been easy but with practice, perseverance and love for what I do I have managed to improve my skills in this art of Cake shop.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As the word says, pastry is an art from the moment you start preparing until when you are decorating. I have always had skills in my hands to create and to be able to do it in cakes is something incredible, it is a mixture of textures and imagination. I think that each person is unique just like their work and that’s why I admire and respect the work of others. I am supremely proud to have achieved many aspects of my personal and work life and I am very excited about this new adventure in the art of pastry, although it has not been an easy job. There are many years of practice and perseverance, I am a self-taught person and the challenges have been even more difficult but at the same time more satisfying. I think the secret to having achieved it is never to give up, although sometimes things don’t go the way you want, it’s trying again and again until you get it. I want to be an inspiration for many people who have no limit to achieving what you want, believe in your inner voice, your dreams are your dreams no matter how big or small they are and mine is just beginning
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Georgia has many beautiful places to visit depending on where you live. I think I could start with Avalon being a perfect place for walking and shopping. We can have a delicious coffee at Café Intermezzo and lunch at Señor Patrón and we couldn’t leave without eating a delicious pizza at Caffe Antico and a delicious ice cream at Jenni’s splendid. Another highly recommended place, especially if you have children and pets, would be Halcyon, it is very family-friendly, there are always activities for both adults and children, you can go shopping while the little ones play, you can have a delicious lunch at Ocean & Acre, and don’t forget to drink a beer at Cherry street brewpub and ice cream at Popbar. Without a doubt we cannot forget Downtown Alpharetta its restaurants are highly recommended and is excellent in summer children can play in the water fountain. If you just want to walk and enjoy a bit of the traditional downtown Roswell is a unique place with shops and restaurants. We could not forget to visit the Aquarium for its great variety of fish makes it unique from many places in the United States and if it is about good steak we cannot leave Little Alley Steak behind and to end the night we can go to Red phone Booth to have a unique experience in their food and drinks
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have supported me with my venture. I am Latina and my second language is English. Many times I have difficulties expressing myself but this has been an impediment to continue growing.
To start your business you do not need a large budget. Just start with a thought and transform it into your dream.
There is so much to be thankful for. Life has rewarded me with a mother who has inspired me to be the woman I am today. To my sisters who are always there for me. My eldest daughter was my first love and the engine to achieve things that I did not imagine achieving, my husband who came into my life at the right time always giving me his unconditional support. The two youngest children you tell me are always the best when I make a cake. My friends who have been there to support me and encourage me to start this beautiful art of pastry. To my clients who have trusted me. I want to give special thanks to my dear friend Iveliz who was the one who motivated me to explore my talent and gave me my first pastry utensils
