We had the good fortune of connecting with Aubrielle Tillman-Francisco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aubrielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before I started my business, I was in college at Bowie State University working towards my Bachelor’s in Business Administration. At the time, I had worked 4 jobs total at different establishments over a course of 4-5 years. It wasn’t until I had an epiphany one day in the middle of class when I asked myself “Why am I working for all these terrible businesses and either getting fired for something that wasn’t my fault or I have to quit due to poor management, when I am in school learning how to run my own business?” It was at that point that I decided that I was gonna start my business and refrain from ever working for another person again making someone else rich. I was receiving all the tools I needed in school to run a successful business and I decided to use it to my advantage. I was, and still am, heavily passionate about the artistry of makeup and drawing, so I just made that as the basis for my business where Karma’s Kreations Artistry was born on March 7, 2018.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Karma’s Kreations Artistry, has quite literally been a force to be reckoned with in the beauty industry within my area. I have consistently created a high quality, luxurious, and professional standard for my business which has not only set me apart from other make-up artists, but also my in-depth knowledge of make-up and how it translates into my signature style is something that can be both seen and felt with my clients. I strive to provide certain techniques within my artistry that I KNOW most make-up artists don’t do. As a result, I am constantly told by my clients about how different their skin feels, how their last MUA (make-up artist) never did any of the things that I am doing in the current session, or how professional, humble, and honest I am when interacting with my potential clients. I am definitely most proud of how far I’ve come and how I have built my business up to where it allows me to pay for my means of living. I am definitely most excited to see where my career takes me. I got to where I am today with my business because I remained authentic and transparent. I keep my business organized and I make sure my clients know all my rules and requirements every step of the way. No surprises. On top of that, I make sure that I include a lot of features within my services to make it worth the cost and set it as a luxury experience. Getting my business to this point was not easy, but what made it fun was because I am doing something that I ENJOY. Every time I get to work on someone, I am filled with joy and the peace I experience while working on someone is what let me know that I was on the right track with my purpose. That is how I overcame any challenges. I love what I do and that makes the challenges and frustrations worth it or not as major. The lessons that I have learned however, have come from how I interact with customers. I’ve learned that not every interaction requires an intense response and that even if you have done everything in your power to fix or adjust and be flexible, that you can’t make everyone happy. If I do my best and give every customer my all, then all I can do is leave it up to the Universe to take care of the rest. But, what I want the world to know about me and my brand, is that it IS and WILL be a household name. It will be as big as Beyoncé or Michael Jackson’s name in terms of notoriety. My brand will be the epitome of luxury and professionalism. I am determined to bring that into the industry and create a standard that I feel any and all beauty professionals should bring when working in this industry. If you are reading this, you will see or hear my name again soon. Trust that!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would most certainly tell them to visit the Belt line on the scooters. When I first moved here, a friend of mine at the time introduced me to it. Ever since then, I have taken my mom and other friends on the Belt line while on the scooters and it is exhilarating! As it pertains to food places, the only one’s that I found nice and some of my favorites would be Another Broken Egg Café in Dunwoody, GA if you want a nice breakfast/brunch spot. Jinya Ramen (Japanese ramen), Mellow Mushroom (pizza), Slutty Vegan (vegan burgers and fries) , and Cafe Intermezzo (Italian cuisine) are also really great food spots that could adhere to different flavors. I would also recommend visiting the Aquarium or even Piedmont Park if you want to slow things down on your trip.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother and a Global make-up artist that I looked up to as I studied make-up artistry, Mr. Sir John. My mother has continuously supported me throughout my career and is willing to sacrifice all she has just to see me succeed. Its been motivating and a driving force within my business. Sir John and the embodiment of his artistry has and still does heavily influence my style of artistry.
