We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Over the 2 years I’ve been in business, the balance I’ve had between work and life has fluctuated many times. I started my business in the middle of a pandemic and graduate school. When I started I had the time to focus on any and every small detail of my business. As the world started to open back up, my time and attention had to be allocated elsewhere. Currently I’m searching again for balance between having a full time job as a teacher, being a part time student, and a business owner. I’ve discovered there is no right or wrong way to do it. You have to really figure out what works best for you and remind yourself to show up for your passion.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a crafter, it’s important that we realize that everyone in your field has just about the exact same vision or dream. I think coming into candle making I had no true vision of what kind of company I wanted to create. I had no idea who my target audience was going to be. I didn’t know why I was making candles. But one day it hit me, I didn’t have to have it figured out at that time. The customers would come, the vision would appear, the type of candles I wanted to make would be made! And all of this has proven true. I’ve always wanted candles that smells amazing throughout the duration of its burn, so that’s what I did! I’m a very minimalist person and I wanted a business that reflects me and is accessible to everyone. Again, this is very true about my business. This has not at all been easy for me, but I’ve truly enjoyed the process!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whew this is such a crazy question to ask of a person who doesn’t get out a lot lol. However, if I were to take a friend around I’d take them to Downtown Dectur. There are so many food places, fun activities, shops, and things to visit. I’d also take my friend to popular sights like the Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Zoo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my family. My family members have been my biggest supporters throughout this entire journey. In the beginning they pushed me to pursue the idea of candle making and sense then they’ve always been there. They are the other faces behind Little Candle Company. They help with fragrance selection, vessel selection, label creation, candle creation & distribution, literally anything you can think of! So thank you for that mom, dad, and sister!
