We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Sutherland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Durham, North Carolina. I always say I have a good mix of the North & South because there’s always a little bit of grit, hustle and assertion in my voice, however I love to display Southern Hospitality and taking care of people. Kindness, simple things and grace go a long way – especially in todays society.

I try to always go the extra mile to take care of clients and people at events – and I want to over deliver and do the job well.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a senior event producer in the live/experiential field with over 10+ years of experience. I specialize in day-of event execution, ROS development, vendor management and VIP/ talent logistics. I am also a small business owner and currently, the main focus of my firm, An ANS Production is to provide event production services to large agencies and brands, such as day-of event execution, ROS development, vendor management and VIP/ talent logistics.

Our recent projects include supporting clients to execute a 9-city HBCU tour, a 3-day sponsor activation at AfroTech, and a 2-day summit for entrepreneurs.

I’ve worked in events for over 15 years, and I committed to growth in this industry in 2018, as a 34-year old intern at a local music festival here in Atlanta. My career journey has always been non-traditional. After graduating Howard University, I moved to New York and talked to everyone I knew in the TV Production and events industry, in order to land volunteer opportunities, internships, shadow opportunities etc. I have always believed in volunteering my time to be of service to others, and to learn a new skill. Those efforts have allowed me to win all of my business by word of mouth – and now we are ready to go even harder by increasing visibility and grassroots marketing efforts this year.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a great glass of wine (Sancerre is my favorite!) and leisurely outdoor activities. I like the Bellyard rooftop for the views or taking a long walk in Piedmont Park. I like Italian food, or a classic spot like Houston’s is always a favorite.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my mother deserves the biggest shoutout! She always supported me and encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do as a career. She nurtured my emotions and my education, always giving me the BEST – and the opportunities that she knew would serve me later in life.
