We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to ultimately pursue an artistic/creative career because ultimately, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. In my senior year of high school, I was considering the career path of being a CPA actually. I took accounting as an elective my senior year & I was really good at it and I really enjoyed it. But fashion has always been my first love. No matter how much I tried to get away from it and pick up on other interests, I just couldn’t.

I am so happy I stuck with my first instinct.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One thing that I am most proud of and always excited for is creating authentic, original work. I never want to create or put anything out that you literally can’t recognize I’ve put my whole heart & soul into it. I got where I am today professionally by always telling myself that failure is not an option. I was born & raised in Trenton, NJ. My city is completely overshadowed by the drugs, the murders, etc. that people truly do not get to see how talented the people are from here. I knew that the only way for me to go in life was up so I had to naturally ground myself and go the path that would suite me best in the long run.

Lessons that I learned along the way begin with be careful who you let into your space. Some people are riding with you until you park. Unfortunately most people want you to your best but not better than them. You have to be very careful who you give your energy to because its transferable. Another hard lesson I had to learn because I am so independent is that it is okay to ask for help. We are not robots. We cannot physically, emotionally, or mentally do everything. Lastly I cannot stress this enough, TAKING BREAKS ARE ESSENTIAL! You can literally burn yourself out by putting so much on your plate at once.

I would like the world to know that I have been creating content for 12 years in October. I started my cosmetics line post pandemic. I want the world to know that if you are passionate about something, don’t let any hold you back! Do it! Don’t keep putting it off. Just do it! The feeling is so rewarding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was to visit my city for a week, we would eat at The Old Towne Pub in Bordentown, get some ice cream at the Ice Cream Boutique, and try out Marcellos in Bordentown,NJ (where I currently reside). We could a vibe & a good drink at VERA Cherry Hill in South Jersey. Also a trip to NJ isn’t complete without either a trip to NYC or Philly and both have so much to do its really hard to pinpoint places. For NYC, we definitely have to go to the MOMA, Amy Ruth’s, definitely shopping in Soho. For Philly, definitely some vintage shopping, AMINA for modern soul food with a twist, Dave & Busters. Thats the kind of vibes I like!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. Literally without them, I am nothing and I wouldn’t have continued to keep going. There was many days full of stress, tears, depression & anxiety, they pushed me to keep going. I want to shoutout my niece Ziyani because she was born, I felt a purpose. I don’t have children of my own yet but I want to build a legacy for her. On some of my saddest or darkest days, she brought a smile to my face. She is so full of life. I want to shoutout my closest friends because they will not let me fail no matter what! They are literally another part of my backbone.
