Meet Ashton Pellom | Award Winning Journalist & Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashton Pellom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashton, why did you pursue a creative career?
I would say the WHY I chose my career is more so WHO I am a human being.
I am a person that loves continuous learning and I love to use my natural talents and professional skills in journalism and video production to provide others with information they seek or a new perspective.
I’ve always enjoyed communicating with others, as well as the artistry behind journalism and video production, so it’s been easy for me to pursue a career in this creative medium.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an award winning journalist, videographer, and communications expert who founded AP Video Productions LLC.
I began my journey as an award winning journalist for WALB-TV in Albany, Georgia and then continued at WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina.
What sets me apart is having years of professional experience in the trenches of a newsroom, combined with natural gifts and other life experiences, the end results of my products are unique. My clients enjoy what I do for them and that brings me joy being able to tell their lived experiences to others.
The journey has had its challenges, but if there’s anything I want to the world to know is to keep being resilient in the face of adversity. Throughout any hardship or trying time, the worst thing one can do is give up or surrender. Always keep pushing through adversity. Tough times don’t last always and those trying times help shape us into better individuals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta truly is the city of all things to do. No matter what your interest is, this city has it ALL and there are always events and festivals going on to keep you entertained.
I’m into sports, so hitting a Hawks, Falcons, Braves or United game is always a must! Atlanta is a cultural mecca, with that being said, I love attending all of the cultural festivals the city has to offer.
Even as an Atlanta native, it’s fun to get lost in the tourists things to do in the city. There’s so many to do, you’ll never do ALL of them. From the World of Coke, The MLK Center, Centennial Park, the museums, and the list goes too long… again there’s always something to keep you entertained.
Ponce City Market or Krog Street Market are nice places to go to be outside and enjoy the Beltline. Piedmont park is a really cool spot to hit as well.
Midtown has some great bars and restaurants, and the nightlife cant be beat. Definitely checkout Buckhead for shopping!
Did I leave anything out?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to Little Brwn Book.
Little Brwn Book is a miniature editorial magazine that prides their book on being, sharp, uplifting, relevant and informative.
Their goal is to raise local brand awareness and drive local commerce. Little Brwn Book is the curated guide to local black and brown empires in Atlanta, and nation-wide.
