We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Weigl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think the answer more aligns with how to know when to adapt. I’m never going to be the type of person who just throws her hands up when the going gets tough. The only reason to ‘give up’ on a plan in my eyes is if it no longer aligns with what I want for myself and my business. And in that case, it becomes more a matter of adapting to changing circumstances and/or new emerging evidence that we didn’t have when we started a plan. But in terms of ‘giving up’ simply because things get tough – that’s not an option. A business coach once told me “you can do hard things” and that continues to stick with me today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, We Make Systems Sexy, has been a continual work in progress to get where we are today. But – we LOVE where we are today and we’re proud of the business we’ve built. I started my business as a virtual assistant doing all the things. Then I became certified as an Online Business Manager because I realized where my strengths truly lie. I quickly realized that while many people thought they were ready to bring on an OBM to work IN their business, what they really needed was to get their systems squared away first and foremost. I also realized that staying on that path was the fast lane to burnout for me. So I stepped back from working on retainer with clients in that capacity and I started focusing my efforts on helping business owners get their systems and processes in place so they could grow and scale without being the bottleneck. What we offer is unique because we focus on 3 main aspects of business systems and we’re experts in all of them. And we serve clients in a way that gets them quality solutions with a fast turnaround through our VIP Day offers. But the most important thing is that I have structured my business in a way that still gives me time, freedom and choice in my everyday life and I love having that flexibility as do my team members.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up going to the original Dwarf House in Hapeville (for those Chik-fil-a lovers out there) so anyone who is NOT from Atlanta, has to AT LEAST go to Chik-fil-a.
Atlanta has SO much goodness to offer. I love to see what ASO has going because there’s always an awesome performance. OR Pretty Woman the musical is coming soon to the Fox Theatre which is also a great venue. They have to catch a Braves game (although I can’t share the same childhood experience with them that I had now that it’s not at Turner Field). We could grab some pizza at Antico’s and most definitely some dessert and coffee at Cafe Intermezzo. Or possibly tapas at Eclipse di Luna. Or if we’re feeling really hungry, Fogo de Chao is always amazing.
Since ATL is home of Coca-Cola, World of Coke is pretty cool and next to Underground which is its own experience! I also adore the Belugas at the Atlanta Aquarium so that would definitely be on the itinerary.
If you want to step outside of Atlanta a bit, Callaway Gardens or the Blue Ridge Mountains will always hold a dear place in my heart. I got married just outside of Helen in Sautee Nacoochee and always love going back. People would get a hoot out of Helen for Octoberfest!
There are months of activities to be found in Atlanta so I could go on and on. Needless to say, I got Georgia on My Mind…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The answer is very clearly my husband. When I decided to put in my notice in 2020 and I told my husband I wanted to start my own business, invest in a course and coaching and jump headlong into this new adventure, he didn’t bat an eye. Instead, in moments when I waivered, he had full confidence that I could and would make this happen. When I stumble, he’s right there and he’s been my rock through every step. Aside from him, Lauren Golden of The Free Mama Movement plus the supportive community she’s built has been a solid support system for me from the outset and one that I continue to fall back on.
