We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At first I was Uber hesitant and unwilling. My mentor Natica Mosely presented the opportunity for me to not only be an independent stylist but also entrusted me to manage her second salon she had purchased. I honestly didn’t think I had what it took but when you have people behind you that believe in you and see in you what you don’t see in yourself, You’re encouraged to step out on faith and that’s what I did.

I talked it over with my prayer partners, family & friends and the line I will never forget was “no risk no reward” those words specifically changed my thought process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I’ve been in the hair industry for over 18 years. My biggest accomplishment would be the fact that I relocated at the height of my career to Greenville, SC from Bridgeport, CT.
When I say height I mean being booked out 3 weeks to a month in advance to completely starting over in a new state only for the whole world to endure a national shut down 6 months after moving and still growing my clientele to a steady pace without any other financial assistance. There were days when I didn’t have clients booked for days but my consistency on social media and my faith never failed.

It’s my faith in God and heart for people that has taken me this far. I treat everyone equally and the most valuable lesson that I’ve learned is to not stand in the posture of offense. Business is boundaries. Once I understood that things started to shift.. My outlook, attitude and money!

Some may know me by my brand “CashStyledYou” or “Cash” the girl with glasses that does hair or the silk press girl, but if I could share anything with the world about me & my brand it would be that because of my consistency and kindness my reputation has taken me places and opened doors that my craft hasn’t. Our mission as the brand is to simply be kind and treat people right. It’s the law of reciprocity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best friend in town?! Bet! First & foremost we’re going to eat good! First stop is Firebird’s Wood fire grill on Woodruff Rd. We’re going to have a nice dinner with the best glass of wine or a fancy drink and then indulge in their carrot cake.
I’m a big kid at heart so we will go to Spare-time for some bowling and possibly laser tag. Spare time is even a good outing space if we allow the children to tag along.

Then of course we will go downtown Greenville. There is so much to do there. We can choose to bar hop, just walk and people watch (my favorite lol) find a nice rooftop party or restaurant or go to my number one pick Ink & Ivy.
Ink & Ivy is a very nice spot for brunch on Sundays, the second level is litt for a party on Saturday and the rooftop is perfect for a girls night any day of the week.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that come to mind when I think of giving credit, but first it would be my family. My Grandmother, Mother & daughter (Wynter) We are indeed 4 the hardway.. My grandma & Mom showed me the way but my baby lights the way. I thrive daily to be an example she can be proud of. The goal is to go further in health, wealth and love.
