We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Smiff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is the key to success. I feel as though anyone who doesn’t take risks are most likely to remain stagnant in their life/career. With that being said, I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t take risks.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I named my brand “BEEN THAT” because I feel that those 2 words create a phrase that brings confidence and that is what my brand is all about, CONFIDENCE! It is also a very unique/exclusive brand that carries a very feminine but strong statement. Hence to why the logo and designs all consists of a woman’s silhouette. I wanted something that would make women feel more confident and beautiful while encouraging women empowerment.

One thing that I am most proud of is the fact that I didn’t leave my vision in my thoughts, I took a chance and brought it to life and sometimes that can be the toughest part in starting a business/brand. But the chances of failure is almost impossible when you stay consistent, trust the process and put God first!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My bestie and I love a good spa day so our first stop would probably be one of my favorite spas which is located in “Waldorf Astoria” Hotel, then stop by “Bylecreme” for some perfume and candle making! Dinner at “Oceanaire Seafood house”, movie at the “Silverspot Cinema”. I would choose a lounge over a club so the next stop would be “Views bar and grill” or “Zari lounge” and Brunch would definitely be at “Toast on Lenox”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I was to give credit to anyone, it would definitely be my mother. She has been the most supportive person on my team since forever! Growing up, she has always allowed me to express my creativity and be my true self. I literally don’t release any designs without my mother’s approval!
