We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Oliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I thought about the risk in my business with what I do, it definitely almost put me at a stand still only because my first thought was, “ how am I going to stand out from the rest of the makeup artist around the world? “ . With this thought in mind, it made me a little discouraged, but then I thought to myself about how unique I am with my customer service and my makeup and that just gave me the edge to go even harder! It gave me all the fuel I needed.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art and my craft is makeup artistry. Makeup has been a gateway for me since 9th grade. Since a child, I have always loved the art behind makeup and how amazing individuals feel inside and out.. I love to make sure my clients are well taken care of and feel beautiful when they are done receiving their service, customer service and building a relationship with your client is so important to me. I make sure clients are given a safe space and also for them to know that they are in good hands, this is what sets me apart from other MUA’S. I am most proud of my dedication because it is NOT easy lol. In this day of age, social media is the number one platform used to express your creativity. While this can be encouraging, it can also be very discouraging because you start to critique your work off of how many likes and followers you have. Now today, I am realizing how much my talent has grown through hard work, dedication, and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! With all of the love and support I had in my corner, I was able to push my self and keep myself motivated to try new things and continue to grow. The lesson I had to learn along the way was that you have crawl, before you can walk. Everything takes time and patience, me slowly but surly learning this helped me conclude that as long as I continue to enhance my craft, the more I am satisfied with my work. Exotic Creations is here and it is on the way to the top! Through god, love, meditation and your ancestors, ANYTHING is possible!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a complete foodie! If my best friend were visiting I would first take her out to brunch starting with Breakfast at Barney’s. After, I would maybe take her to the selfie museum, botanical garden, or six flags/white waters ( i love thrills and roller coasters ) I would then take her by Royal Health World in the west end area, one of my favorite holistic stores for a delicious Seamoss drink and yummy vegan macaroons, and to top it off for dinner at Cirque.. I love good seafood! Some of my favorite restaurants you have to check out while your in Atlanta would be The Goodz, Atlanta fish market, Ra sushi, STK steak house.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate a shout-out to my amazing, most supportive, loving, beautiful partner and girlfriend Whitney: I love you so much thank you for always cheering me on! My family, two older brothers, and mother. And my beautiful best friends Dorothy, Mary, and Artisha I love you all. If I missed anyone ( you know who you are if you have ever supported me ) I love you all as well. And most importantly, my clients, for always trusting in me to give them complete FACE
