We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley McMillan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that risk taking is an essential to success – opening a new business or starting a side hustle is obviously a life changing risk which includes heavily on finances. When providing a new product or service, it will always feel risky because of the uncertainty that comes along with it. When I first start my coaching business, I felt like I was saying to every potential client, “Hey, you gotta trust me, I know what I’m teaching and doing!” I accepted every single client that wanted my coaching service at the beginning so I could master my craft, sometimes I didn’t even know how I could help their business. But I prepped, use my studies and knowledge and coach at my best. Was I nervous about coaching these high-ticket clients? Absolutely! Those risks have made who I am today – successful as a Coach and Educator.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I launched The Savvy Company in late winter 2020. It was risky and scary being that Covid was knocking on our economy doors, so I faced many hiccups and struggles during the pandemic. But I also learn a lot about myself being in business and found various ways to teach my clients about their businesses. I launched a private Facebook group last year called Side Hustle School and now launching my 3rd mentorship program called Savvy Woman February 2022, for just $49 a month. I am truly blessed and honored to be able to educate over 250 women with their business ventures. This year, I have also created a fully packed board-certified coaching program aspiring coaches.
Thinking out the box is my superpower. Being a mother of three, high school teacher, business coach, and author, I am proud of myself for going for my dreams and passion. Knowing that my dreams and passion aligns with my purpose makes it even better. I do know my dreams did not come easy, it required lots of prayer and me putting in the work. I put great love into all my clients and business ventures. People often ask me the infamous questions, “How do you do it?” I appreciate this question; it lets me know I am doing something right. What sets me apart is my energy and drive for success. I have no need for ego. I am confident because I believe in myself and the gifts that God has blessed me with. I am humble by my calling and grateful for the teachings I offer. I am intentional about releasing the power in knowledge and uplifting other women entrepreneurs.
I am also ecstatic about my recent book, Abbi’s Picture-Perfect Day: Learning Community Helpers. I wrote this book last year inspired from teaching my three-year-old about her community helpers. Abbi’s Picture-Perfect Day is designed for preschool – 3rd graders, to learn about their community helpers. More importantly, all the characters in this educational book are brown. It was important that I teach my kids that their neighbors can be doctors, bakers, and other community helpers too.
I am even more overjoyed about my newly found hobby; Life Hacks with Ashley is a podcast that I started during quarantine. I speak for empowered women who come have endured traumatic pain and hurt from a toxic mother and creating boundaries for peace. This podcast also includes topics like getting out of the rut, finding happiness in pain, and living in Passion, Purpose, and Power! I share intimate moments of my hurt and pain. Many women in this world can resonate with seeking love, acceptance, and success after traumatic events from their own families. There is a celebration of life, health, and wellness in each episode. I am happy to help other women evolve, grow, and become loving each day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a city girl, born and raised in Atlanta, GA. So, when I have family and friends visiting, I give them the “Welcome to A” tour of the city starting from the King Center, Peachtree Street, Belt line, to the West End area. ’Atlanta is known for its famous southern charm all over so they’re so many spots to brunch and enjoy dinner. We’d have to eat dinner at Paschal’s Restaurant off Northside Drive.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my family and clients for their encouragement and support of myself, especially my husband and kids without any of these people in my life I would’ve quit at the beginning. My kids taught how to be a resilient and flexible mompreneur.
