We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve had to make was deciding to become a full time loctician/hairstylist and leaving a 9-5 job behind. I had to believe in myself and profession enough to take that leap of faith. I have been a licensed cosmetologist since 2016 and it has been a challenge trying to balance working a job and building up my clientele. Being a single mom trying to provide, it was a challenge figuring out my priorities. Many times I felt like I wanted to quit. I took many breaks. But i knew doing hair was what I was meant to do. Every time I wanted to quit, I was brought right back to it. So I trusted God, took a leap of faith and decided to focus on my passion of doing hair.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 8 years. I spent most of those years doing hair on and off with a full time job. It was never consistent and it was hard to see myself doing it full time. As a single mom I felt I couldn’t handle being an entrepreneur, especially when business was inconsistent. But I’ve learned things happen when they are supposed to and at the right time. Now I think this is the perfect time to fully focus on my craft and continue to flourish with the gift I was given of providing beauty services.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am all about self care. So I would definitely try to spend time at the spa for relaxation. Maybe go to a winery like Chateau Elan and eat good food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my parents for always being there for me during this process. They have definitely help me through this journey and have been extremely supportive. I can always go to them for any advice and they provide honest and helpful feedback. I couldn’t ask for a better support system.
