We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what principle do you value most?
One thing I do not believe in is failure. However, I do believe that when things do not go as planned it is because a piece of the plan is still missing or that timing is off, but I never tell myself I failed at something. No, I do not believe I am perfect, but I do believe that what is meant to be will always be. If I have a new idea about something it is up to me what I do with it next. No one lives your life and have encountered the same visions you have that’s why they are your visions.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Embroidery has been around for ages, but not many young black women have shown interest in embroidery and especially not monogramming. Historically, monograms have the stigma of representing higher class in Southern culture and can be looked upon as preppy. Being from a small southern town, Wrens, GA, monogram boutiques have always existed in our area and have always captured my attention. So, in 2019 I purchased my first used tabletop embroidery machine for $200 from a local monogram boutique owner and got started right away watching Youtube to teach myself how to embroider. It was not easy. At this time I was a single mother and needed extra income. I was more determined than ever, so I invested late nights and early mornings until I got it. Now, Pink Lemons is blossoming into exactly what I prayed it would be, which is a business representing all women and our individuality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Now, that Augusta is growing there are so many new and cool places to visit. Anytime I am hosting visitors here in Augusta I always take them to Beamie’s on the River, because they have the freshest seafood. I love seafood. We would also check out the Wright Brothers – Reserve and Ride Water Sports. Those guys give the best jet ski tours on the Savannah River. We would maybe even go by and pick up some awesome smelling incense and crystals from the Rebel Lion’s Den and definitely end our day with a flavorful milkshake from Whipped Creamery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my team, my support system, which consist mostly of family and a few close friends, who help me with events, caring for my child, and truly they help with whatever I need. Without them I know Pink Lemons would not be able to grow the way it has since the beginning. I am blessed to have individuals around me who know very little about my line of work, but still respect my time and want to see me winning. Big Shoutout to THEM!
