We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I come from a family of nurses who inspired me to also become an RN and my parents have always instilled the thought of me being my own boss. More so, I recall as if it happened yesterday-I completed a shift one day and I had a moment where I wanted more in my life than just working 12 hour shifts and feeling burnout amongst also being in school pursuing my BSN degree. I wanted to have more freedom and to create a brand that focuses on representation of other pretty melanated nurses of any and all nursing specialties. I sought to seek my purpose within the nursing field other than an ongoing cycle of eat, sleep, study, work and repeat especially while working night shift. Therefore, I created unique safety essentials and nursing accessories to represent us. With that, I enjoy instilling positivity, encouragement and products to represent the importance of us melanated nurses.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets my business apart from others are my products-outside of traditional masks I sell neck gaiters, touchless germ free tools and other safety essentials in addition to nursing oriented accessories such as mugs and fashion items. I’m proud of myself for taking the risk and creating my business and also excited to see where it goes. I got to where I am today with faith, prayer, perseverance, great organizational skills and having a good work life balance. This journey has not been easy as it is a risk, however, I overcame challenges with prayer, support from family and friends and believing in myself to overcome any obstacles thrown my way. I’ve learned to never give up, especially not on yourself no matter the circumstances and to never doubt yourself. I want the world to know that I’m an RN and the mission behind my business is to strive to create products that represent us within healthcare. Furthermore, to serve as a subtle reminder to continue striving for your goals/ dreams and to serve as a motivational factor for melanated nurses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d recommend Miami Beach and Collins Ave for shopping, lounges , fun on the beach and unique restaurants. Also concerts such as Rolling Loud at Hard Rock Stadium – there’s so many options in South FL.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my family and friends for their ongoing love and support and all praises to the Most High to be in such a successful position at this time.
