We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashanti Renise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashanti, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been into hair since I was a kid. I can humbly say it was a natural talent of mine. During my mom’s battle with breast cancer I saw how hair loss directly affected her self esteem. I also saw the same pattern with my grandmother, who lost her battle with cancer. You can say I merged my God-given gifts with my passion to inspire and empower women.

What should our readers know about your business?
Currently Nalani Beauty Collection specializes in non-surgical hair replacement. That includes everything from medically insured wigs, to cosmetic hair extensions, to our bestselling Serenity Hair Serum. What sets us apart is our mission to give women back their confidence and their sense of femininity. I’m excited for the future and where NBC is headed. The road hasn’t been easy but seeing the impact we’ve had on women makes the difficult times more than worth it. The best personal lesson I’ve recently learned is that time is the most important thing I have. As cliche’ as it sounds, once your time is gone you can’t get it back. I don’t mean over schedule your day cramming a million things on your to do list, but more so working smarter freeing up your time to enjoy the present moment. NBC’s footprint in the world will be remembered as uplifting and positive. A brand that advocates for all women, especially minorities. A brand that takes the unique light that’s inside of each woman and displays it for the world to see… owning her beauty and radiating self-confidence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So we’d more than likely start off with brunch at Milk and Honey ATL with mimosas of course. Then we’d do a little shopping at Perimeter Mall. Sometime along the trip we’d put on our walking shoes and head to the Roswell Mill Waterfall or Stone Mountain. Luckily my bestfriend loves the outdoors as much as I do so it would be nothing less than a good time and great workout. We’d finish it off with a late night spa date at Jeju Sauna in Duluth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, literally the strongest woman I know. I’ve watched her relentlessly transition through situations that would have easily broken others. She shows me the true strength of a woman. She’s strong but soft. Intuitive, and patient. She’s compassionate, but as she would say, “doesn’t take any wooden nickels.” So shoutout to my favorite lady! I love you to the moon and back.
