We had the good fortune of connecting with Asha Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asha, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say my insatiable determination to be successful creative problem solver helped me get to where I am today. I never doubted I would be in the creative field for a living. You must have the drive because you will get told that you can’t do something over and over again in this field, but you need to remember that all you need is one yes for everything to change. This is only the beginning of my career, however, and I still have many more goals I wish to achieve!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I call myself a creative problem solver first, but I have grown to be particularly fond of motion graphics because I believe as society continues to modernize, motion graphics will become an essential field in the creative world. In general, I enjoy the problem solving aspect in the creative field as there are numerous answers to the same problem and that is what motivates me. I can just go crazy and the perfect idea (or not so perfect ideas) will appear for me. This is all apart of the fun chaos that is the art world.

I would not say my art journey has been easy. I was able to graduate from my university in three years, and land an internship at the global company, Yamaha. This might come across as pure luck but I can assure you that it took months of applying and copious amounts of “we are moving on with another candidate” letters before even getting an interview. I have been told plenty of times that I could not be a designer because of xyz, but what I think they did not realize was how determined I was to making my dream a reality. I want other young creatives to know that a single no does not determine your fate, a thousand no’s do not determine your fate. YOU determine your fate!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I do not really do any of this stuff, I would show them around my house. I would force my husband to make us some delicious home cooked meals, and they can enjoy the view of my back window which is just trees.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize my design professors at Kennesaw State University! Without the wise words of Matthew Phillips, the careful eye of Kristine Hwang Kim, and the kindness and warmth of Craig Brasco, I would never be here today!
