We had the good fortune of connecting with Arttina NGOMA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arttina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was I did not want to, honestly. It was my sister who brought the fabric and paid for my first photoshoot. I remember her having so much confidence in me and her confidence rubbed off on me. I believe all it takes is for someone to believe in your dreams and encourage you to just step out on faith.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently. I graduate this Spring 2021 with my Doctorate of Psychology. Starting my own business has really pushed me into my dreams because I get tons of messages from women about not feeling pretty, their weight, marriage, hair, and etc… all these questions stemmed from a Headwrap picture. I remember them talking about how confident I looked and they wanted to buy my product because they believed it would make them feel better. I absolutely do agree it will make them feel better, but the sexiness, confidence, and self love has to come from within.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
All my friends know that I’m an introvert and I avoid crowds and loud music. I love places that are really intimate that not a lot of people would go. I love a great mimosa so I definitely would take them to a local brunch spot called “Starving Artist” and than we would literally head to Washington D.C. I love being away from all the people in my current city. I’m not a clique person, I just like to be out the way. I’m very private, but transparent.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend Erika O’nike, has always been there for me. She is such a really huge encouragement for me because I can bounce business ideas off her and she will give me a different perspective and insight that I normally would have missed. I can tell Erika anything and I do not have to worry about her taking my ideas and running with them. I am truly blessed to definitely have someone who cares professionally and personally about me, and that there is not any competition or jealousy between us. It is very rare to have a friend who just wants you to win.
