We had the good fortune of connecting with Arrevion Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arrevion, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing that I have done as parent to impact my children was to finish college and start my own business. After graduating high school, I decided to move to Atlanta from the small town of Belzoni, Ms. I became a waitress at Waffle House making $2.17 an hour. After working there for quite some time, I soon realized I needed a college education but only after two years of attending I dropped out and became a mother. After having my first daughter she motivated me to go back to college to get my bachelor’s degree. After years of being in school on and off, having two additional children, and getting married, I finally graduated in 2017. My kids saw my struggle to work a full time job, be a full time mom, wife, and student. It was some very long nights and some tears of frustrations, but I persevered through for my children. I will never forget the look on my family’s face when I put on that cap and gown. A few months later, I decided I wanted to be a Travel Professional and started Reelaxing Destinations. That motivated my daughter to go to college which she will also soon be receiving her bachelor’s degree in May of 2022. I believe as a parent I impacted and instilled in her and as well as my other children to follow their dreams no matter how long it may take them, it is never impossible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

My career in travel started out of a genuine passion for vacations…and all that comes with it! I have always enjoyed every stage of the planning process and love helping others make their travel dreams a reality. So I started my own agency. My initial thought process behind started my own business was fearful and doubtful. I feared that I would not receive support, fail, or it would be become too overwhelming. I had just received my bachelors in business and was afraid to start from the bottom. But I was just as excited as I was fearful. I was excited to finally be living my dream of helping others travel and explore the world with their families and loved ones as I did. That feeling overpowered my fears, I wanted to be apart of the process of making lifelong memories for families and that is what helped me get my process started to get my business off the ground and running. It took sleepless nights, multiple days with no income, and loss of hope but it was all worth it because I was doing what I always dreamed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever family or friends come to visit, I have to take them to visit one of the largest aquariums in the world the GA Aquarium. Then right across the plaza to make a stop at the World of Coke and National Center for Civil and Human Rights. We will also catch a show or concert at The Fox Theater. We will spend a day at Krog Street Market and partake at as many restaurants and shops as possible. I can not let my visitor leave without letting them experience the rooftop of Ponce City Market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout out to my husband, Andre Banks. He always encouraged me to keep pushing and gives me unconditional support no matter how crazy my ideals may seem. Also, to my three amazing children Atandra, Andre and Amayah. They have given me so much love and support on this journey. Last but not least, my amazing mentor Keda Mason, she took me under her wings and taught me everything I know about the travel business. She has never turned me away when I called and need advice, she has encouraged me and wiped tears away when I was frustrated and was ready to give up.
