Meet ariesfoolmoon | Artist, Producer, Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with ariesfoolmoon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ariesfoolmoon, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m a small town girl from Ohio where everybody knows everybody, but I’d say that entire state raised me. I have family all over. That in itself had it’s pros and cons, but overall, it taught me the importance of community. I lived in Michigan for several years, too. Growing up in the Midwest definitely influenced me musically – Kanye, Cudi, Slum Village, Bone Thugs, Common, J Dilla, Lupe, Twista, MJ, Prince, Eminem… the list goes on of some of the greats I grew up listening to that come from where I’m from. I think people from the Midwest have a special, unspoken understanding of each other. I believe the Midwest have proven to breed some of the best and most influential musicians, and knowing these people came from the same place as me definitely gave me hope that I could also accomplish more than what appeared to be handed to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I write, record and engineer all of my original music. I’m grateful to say I have a small handful of super talented producers and musicians on my team now, but I started this journey alone. I taught myself how to do what I love, and I think that’s what makes me stand out from other artists. I know the creative process of creating a song from start to finish so everything you hear comes from my own heart, from my own hands, from my own mouth and into your speakers. It wasn’t easy learning how to engineer, but it wasn’t hard either because it’s always been a gift of mine. I just had to apply myself and I’m still learning as I go, but I’m super confident in my creative abilities and I think that confidence and passion can be heard in my music, which is something I am most proud about.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take them to For Keeps! It’s such a dope, intimate space for eclectic, intelligent, artistic black people to hang out and read. I’d definitely swing them by Edgewood Ave. to explore the bars and grab food. Next, take a walk through Little 5 Points to browse through the local shops there. I think Piedmont park is my favorite place in Atlanta – it’s always a nice vibe out there, especially in the Spring during the Jazz festival.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, shoutout to my family for always encouraging me to sing! My family has always been my biggest support system and I love you all so so much. I want to shoutout some very special people I’ve met so far in my musical journey here in Atlanta. Sabrina, you have one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. I love you. freespottie, Chebba, Ill Kalil, Promise, those are my brothers in soul! You guys inspire me and challenge me to keep creating and I love you guys so much. Rosa Duffy, owner of For Keeps, a reading room in Atlanta – thank you for opening your doors to me to perform and share my art is such a lovely space. Young Lal, I have infinite gratitude for you for being the first person to sit down and teach me so much about engineering which is a tool I’ve used to start my career. Dgio, thank you for being such a dope person to create with. Tejah G and TheLetterLBeats, thank you for providing me with an opportunity to create in the historic Stankonia studios – I’ve made some valuable connections from camp. The list could go on, but overall I’d like to shoutout every single person who has shown me support through these past few years in my journey as an artist. I love you.
