We had the good fortune of connecting with Arielle Page and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to start my own business but it wasn’t until I was sitting in my parent’s house during the pandemic, not working and not really knowing the future of my pastry career in Atlanta that I realized that there was a niche market I could tap into. I then began to develop cheesecake recipes and sent out some testers and realized I had a great product.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always wanted to become a pastry chef. Literally, since the days of watching pastry competition shows on the FoodNetwork. I mean the international pastry competition shows where these amazing artists are creating sculptures out of sugar and chocolate. Having worked in various industries around Atlanta has allowed me to learn and be creative thru food. I took that with me when creating my online cheesecake business. What sets Arie’s Confectionaries apart is that we provide assorted, individually decorated mini cheesecakes. The customer is able to pick and choose from a variety of cheesecake minis to create their own spread. I encourage my customers to follow me on all social media forms because my flavors change with the seasons and Holidays. I love being able to be creative in this way. It keeps it fresh and it keeps customers intrigued. Right now we are in the early stages of obtaining a store-front where the customer is able to come in and pick and choose their cakes in-store. I’m really excited about that! It’s definitely not been an easy road. Living in Augusta, I basically had to start my customer base from scratch but having support from my customers in Atlanta too has also been encouraging to me as well. I’ve learned that operating a business isn’t a straight and narrow path. I thought that if I follow these steps, then I would get a specific outcome but alas, life will always have its challenges. In my opinion, it makes the goal all the more rewarding once you achieve it.
I’d want the world to know that Arie’s Confectionaries really takes proper care in creating each of their wonderful cakes. All cheesecake is made with eggs from local farmers and actual vanilla beans. We also use vanilla extract that’s been aged in-house as well. You truly taste the difference! I want people to take away from my business a sense of satisfaction knowing that some of the ingredients are locally made and that they are truly getting an artisan product.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I am hopping back and forth between Augusta and Atlanta, I’d first take them a bit north to Marietta Square Market. As a former resident of Marietta, it was a 5 min drive from me and I was there 2-3 days out of the week. They have great ramen from Momoiro. Siete Tacos is also a great spot and then I ALWAYS get a bubble tea from Tiny Bubbles tea bar. Foxtrot Liquor Bar is a great place for drinks in midtown. For fun activities, I like to go to Ponce City Market for the rooftop bar and games. As far as Augusta, there are numerous eateries and bars downtown to wander in and out of. And of course, the gorgeous riverwalk.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are numerous individuals and groups that have encouraged me to keep going with my business. I can’t shout all of those individuals out but I would like to shout out my mom Elizabeth Page. She has been my right-hand man throughout everything. Whether it’s weathering the climates outside with me for my market events, or researching possible store-front locations, or coming out of pocket to provide my business what it needs at the time. She has truly been there every step of the way! I will never be able to fully repay her but my business is dedicated to her!
