We had the good fortune of connecting with Arielle Jackson-Dowdell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Good question. The thought process behind starting my own business was to create a lucrative stream of income and balance having the freedom to be available for my then 2 year old son.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a lash salon. We specialize in custom lash extensions. What sets me a part is not only do we focus on your outer beauty, but the inner beauty as well. You’ll leave with a gorgeous set of lashes, but also encouragement to go out in the world and be great. Whether it’s advice to start a business, finish school, accomplish goals, etc. we focus on uplifting and encouraging our clientele.

To get where I am today was very challenging. A lot of sacrifices were made. Consistency is the key. Marketing and working long hours, along with sacrificing time, family, and money got me where I am today.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way is :
1) you have to have tunnel vision. You can’t worry about what everyone else is doing. You have to keep your eyes on your prize

2) your clientele will change as you grow and elevate. Be ok with that. It’s for the better

3) God fave you the vision. He’s also going to give you the tools you need to be successful. Be open and receptive to receiving them.

4) it gets greater, later. It isn’t easy in the beginning, but there’s beauty in the journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie. So ever we would try unique restaurants in the area. I would take my best friend to casino, Infusion lounge in Montgomery for the best crab claws in Alabama. We would probably also go to Atlanta and find something to do, being that I live in a small city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I had to credit someone for the inspiration for my journey, it would be my grandfather, Allen McDaniels. He was a barber/cosmetologist. He taught me the hustle, how to run my business, and encouraged me during the tough times. Because of him, I fell in love with the beauty industry .
