We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariell Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariell, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for ALuxeBeauti was born out of a need for honesty, intention, and authenticity in body care. Many brands on the market prioritize cost-cutting over quality, often overlooking how their ingredients affect the body, not just externally but internally. Through extensive research, I discovered the transformative power of natural ingredients and herbs that nurture and heal the skin naturally, both on the surface and at a deeper level.
While the natural route may take a little longer to show results, its long-term benefits far outweigh quick fixes. I wanted to create a brand that is transparent and truthful, where every ingredient is carefully selected, researched, and disclosed. Our commitment is to ensure that what you’re putting on your skin is not only safe but also effective. I would never include anything in our products that I wouldn’t use myself. At ALuxeBeauti, it’s about more than just skincare; it’s about trust, wellness, and delivering products crafted with the utmost care and intention.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I graduated from the illustrious WSSU with a degree in Exercise Science, but I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. After college, I started a hair business, but during the pandemic, I realized the quality wasn’t up to my standards, so I pivoted. My journey into bodycare began after creating my own body butter to address my dry skin and for friends and family who have eczema. One of my first creations, a chamomile and lavender herbal body butter, not only helped with dry skin but also alleviated stress and anxiety for myself and others. It became even more meaningful when my late great-grandmother, who was battling cancer, used my body butters for her scars. It helped heal her scars and restore her confidence. My mother’s friend’s father, who had diabetes, also used my body butter on his feet, and his doctor noticed how moisturized they were and commented on the remarkable improvement.
These experiences solidified for me that I am on the right path. My products have not only helped heal people physically but have also brought emotional and holistic relief, which means more to me than anything. This journey has been about more than just skincare, it’s about creating meaningful, intentional products that truly make a difference in people’s lives.
ALuxeBeauti is a reflection of who I am, luxurious, intentional, and authentic. The name represents my values (A for my initials, Luxe for luxury, and Beauti with an “I” because true beauty comes from within). Building this brand hasn’t been easy, especially as I transitioned to doing it full-time, but my supportive family, loyal customers, and unwavering determination have carried me through. Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of leaning on others, seeking mentorship, and staying focused on the vision I have for myself and my brand.
Social anxiety has always been a challenge for me as an introvert, but I pushed through and showed up as my most authentic self during my first pop-up shop. It turned out better than I imagined, not just because of the sales, but because I connected with so many people by simply being myself. I spoke with everyone who passed by my table and even got to know the other vendors. It was a huge step out of my shell, and it felt amazing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m originally from North Carolina and moved back here a few years ago. A lot has changed since I was younger, so I’m rediscovering the city all over again. Here’s how I’d plan the best week:
For brunch, we’d start with Toast on Lenox, Breakfast at Barney’s, and Southern Queenz. Each spot has its own vibe and offers amazing food that sets the tone for the day.
For activities, I’d take them to Beat The Bomb, which is like an escape room meets game room for adults who still love being “big kids.” It’s a fun way to challenge your mind while letting loose. I’m a big kid at heart, so I love anything that makes me laugh and have fun. After that, we’d head to Your 3rd Spot, a perfect mix of arcade games, bowling, and great drinks.
When it’s time for lunch or dinner, we’d have to visit Roc South for one of the best soul food spots in the city that I’ve tried so far. Their cornbread is unforgettable! Southern Fire Kitchen is another must, especially for their honey cornbread—it’s so popular that you should order it as soon as you sit down. If we’re craving Mediterranean, Rumi’s Kitchen or Kid Cashew would be the go-to spots for flavorful, fresh dishes.
The week would be full of fun, great food, and amazing memories exploring the city and reconnecting with all its new and exciting places.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom, who is a highly successful entrepreneur and Global Business Consultant. Watching her build her businesses from the ground up has been a constant source of inspiration for me. She encourages me every day to keep pushing forward, no matter the challenges.
From the very start of my business, she has been one of my biggest supporters. Whether it’s helping with marketing strategies, testing products, or even purchasing my products at full price without asking for a discount, she has always shown her unwavering support. She’s even promoted my products to her clients, which means the world to me.
Beyond her tangible support, my mom has played a huge role in helping me overcome my anxiety and build my confidence. She’s taught me how to push through fear, step outside of my comfort zone, and keep going no matter what. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her love, mentorship, support, and example. She truly deserves this recognition and more.
