We had the good fortune of connecting with Aqeel Hasan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aqeel, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
As a business owner there are so many sacrifices that you have to make to become successful, especially when using your own money to fund the business. But outside of money, there are the other companies and people you do business with. Sometimes one of the most difficult decisions to make is when to stop doing business with a person. For the most part, we as people have a sense of wanting to belong and when we feel like we have found our group we tend to stay longer then we should. Most owners can tell you a story about how they had a business relationship that fostered into a friendship, but then the friendship eventually began to affect the business in a negative way. At this point, the business owner starts making decisions from an emotional state of mind versus a business state of mind. You have to become strong enough to fire a friend or family member if that relationship is negatively affecting your business. At the end of the day, if your business fails its on you.
My advice is to “keep it clean”. When it comes to people you do business with or that are employees, do your best to ensure that they can see and acknowledge your boundaries. When it comes to doing business with family, put your expectations of each other in writing and you both sign it. This may not prevent an issue, but it will definitely give clear guidelines as to expectations, responsibilities, and accountability.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a filmmaker, I want to create things that I like and hope others will enjoy. Throughout my life I have had these bursts of inspiration to write something, pitch an idea for a movie, and/or build something, but never had the connections or platform to do so. One day, the idea of building a website where I could sell my movies as downloads to customers came flooding over me. I wrote the business plan and design the company layout that day on scratch paper. I decided that the goal was not to be necessarily financially rich from my projects, but to be able to fund my next project from the sells. As I thought about it more, it came to me that there are other filmmakers around the world that feel the same way. After an indie filmmaker has completed a movie premiere and the festival run, most of their content ends up on YouTube for free. With the Enterprise Theater TV Network, a filmmaker can now sell their projects as downloads to customers and/or partner with us to place commercial advertising around their content to recoup production cost and potentially make a profit.
The Enterprise Theater TV network is an app that is available on RokuTVs, Apple, Android smart devices, and a streaming website. When you open the app, it looks like the Comcast guide with multiple channels of 24/7 live content playing. The app is free to the consumer. Download today and “Discover Something New”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Atlanta, there are always tons of networking & social events that you can attend. This city has something for everyone from the food . clubs, museums, and sites. Depending on which friend is coming to visit, we could indulge in any of these things.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this dream and giving me the intelligence to build it and share it with the world. Having the support of my family is also a blessing. Family can be weird when you are branching out to do something new & unexpected. I have learned that it is sometimes hard to see someone you know do something completely unexpected. We as people tend to lay our expectations on others, and become disappointed or shocked when those expectations are not meet or exceeded. It does not mean that they do not love you, it just means they are unable to comprehend. So you have to give them time. I would also like to thank all of my partners & content creators that have trusted me with their brands and content. The Enterprise Theater TV network has more than 200 creators, filmmakers, writers, etc on the platform. The network has a combined reach of over 6 million followers.
