We had the good fortune of connecting with April H. Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April H., what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think two things have contributed to my success. First, I have a strong support system. Throughout my life, my parents, my teachers, my husband, and others have stepped up to provide support at crucial times. Without their support, my journey would have been much more difficult.

Second, my faith has gotten me through many challenges. It may seem trite, but my relationship with God has been a light in dark times and a bridge over many troubled waters. Without my faith, I could not have dreamed of my current life, much less achieved it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an Accident & Injury Attorney.  I started my law firm in 2015 with a newborn baby. She was our third child of four children. Believe it or not, I almost didn’t start my law firm. I had a comfortable job with the federal government. I had a reliable salary. I had benefits. My husband and I had a growing family. Staying in this job seemed like the smart – and safe- thing to do.

Yet, I kept dreaming about opening my own firm. The idea of being my own boss became more and more appealing. But I kept talking myself out of it. I recited all of the reasons why starting my own firm was a bad idea. My fear grew. Eventually, I began replacing my fear with faith.

My old job was fine. I had great colleagues and great pay. But it didn’t feel like a calling. Simply, I didn’t love it. I’m glad that let go of the fear and followed my heart. Now I get to do something I love every day!

The thing that excites me the most about running my firm is helping people. People come to my firm after they’ve experienced devastating injuries. Their lives have changed. I’m thrilled to do my part to help them reclaim their lives and get the compensation they deserve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I are pretty chill so we’d probably spend the day at Woodhouse Spa in the Summit for a massage, facials, manicures, and pedicures. Afterward, we can walk over to Village Tavern for a bite to eat. We’d also likely stop at the shops or at least window-shop for a bit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my village, particularly the women I’ve encountered throughout my life who inspired me, motivated me, and did whatever they could to help keep me on the path of greatness.
