Hi April, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our business helps the community by providing a platform for business owners to learn and grow through our Facebook group, ‘Grow Your Alabama Business For Free.’ We offer valuable content on various topics such as marketing, SEO, money management, and more. Our goal is to build a supportive community where members can help and collaborate with each other, fostering growth and opportunities for businesses in Alabama.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey as an Independent Contractor, providing services for renowned companies like Dell, IBM, and HP, all while pursuing my education at ITT Technical Institute. My initial focus was on PC installations across various industries, gaining valuable hands-on experience. In 2007-2008, I officially founded Dixon Technology and secured a contract with Visio, specializing in television repairs. This milestone required obtaining a business license, EIN, and establishing a dedicated business bank account.

As I progressed academically, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Electronics and Engineering Technology followed by a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Communication Engineering Technology, I also gained practical experience in the corporate world. I joined AT&T, troubleshooting DSL issues, and worked for esteemed organizations such as the Department of Veteran Affairs and Regions Bank as an IT Helpdesk Technician.

Throughout my journey, I encountered challenges, including pressures to keep my business ventures hidden due to potential conflicts with corporate roles. However, I learned the importance of leveraging my skills and talents openly, never being afraid to reinvent myself and explore new avenues in business.

Today, I am proud of the diverse experiences that have shaped my expertise, blending technical proficiency with corporate insights. I want the world to know that Dixon Technology is not just a business; it’s a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of growth and innovation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For breakfast, I would take them to Big Bad Breakfast, known for its delicious morning offerings and cozy ambiance. For lunch, we’d head to Green Acres in Downtown Birmingham for their iconic 10-piece ‘ALL THE WAY!!!’ wings, a local favorite that never disappoints.

During the week-long trip, I’d plan to attend the latest events happening in Birmingham, ensuring a VIP-style experience. This could include concerts, art exhibitions, or cultural festivals, depending on what’s happening in the city during our visit.

For dinner, I would reserve a table at one of the most popular restaurants in the city, where we can indulge in the finest cuisine and enjoy a memorable dining experience.

Throughout the week, we would also explore some of Birmingham’s landmarks, such as Vulcan Park and Museum, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, and the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. These iconic places offer a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty that showcase the essence of Birmingham.

Additionally, we would take time to discover the vibrant nightlife scene, checking out local bars and lounges known for their unique cocktails and live music performances.

Overall, this itinerary combines the best dining experiences, cultural exploration, and entertainment options that Birmingham has to offer, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable trip for my best friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to two influential figures in my life. Firstly, my mother deserves immense credit for her tough love and unwavering support throughout my childhood and into adulthood. Her guidance has taught me invaluable lessons in strength and independence, shaping me into the person I am today. She is not just my mother but also my first and most cherished best friend.

Secondly, I am deeply grateful to my mentor, Gilberto Herrera, for his continuous support, resources, and guidance in the realms of marketing and business. Gilberto has been instrumental in showing me the ropes and providing valuable insights that have had a profound impact on my professional journey. I owe a great deal of my success to his mentorship and the lessons he has imparted.
