We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antonio, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Growing up in Rockdale County, I acquired my passion for barbeque at the age of 12 by watching my grandfather cook. By the age of 19, I took barbeque seriously as I started throwing parties for friends and family. From those positive experiences, I realized I wanted to become a pit master. I have been cooking for family and friends and doing pop-ups around the Atlanta area since 2006 . Barbeque is not just about the smoke and the meat. It’s about the satisfaction I get from seeing people experiencing their first bite of the meal I cooked. This is the real meaning of barbeque for me. Growing up with 2 brothers and my mom working 2 jobs you had to learn how to be very independent.. Me being the oldest of the three made me a hustler. I’ve always wanted more out of life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a maintenance director by trade, very good with these hands lol, but my true passion has always been cooking. It hasn’t been easy juggling two jobs but when you love to cook as much as I do you make it work – Not many realize the dedication and hard work that comes with bbq’n and having to wake up @3 am to start a cook, after putting in 40hrs a week but honestly I can say I love it so much that it doesn’t bother me at all, but like every aspect of my life I work my ass of to be successful and hope that everyone can taste the passion I have for what I do in the dishes I create. It is convenient To make my own schedule and when it’s time to bbq that’s where you’ll find me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop would be the poker room little kings and queens in Buford Georgia. I spend a lot of my free time playing Texas Holdem. So I need to get my weekly poker fix in.. I live in the buckhead area so if any friends of mine visiting we must hit little alley steak house. Nothing like a good dry aged steak and red wine. I also like the romantic setting at Rays on the river. That’s another favorite spot to eat of mine.. I’m a big die hard Atlanta sport fan so we would have to catch a Braves game or falcons or hawks game.. Nothing like a good 5 mile hike around Stone Mountain and Piedmont park.. I’m big on fitness as well I love hiking.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my wife Mia Harris and my grandfather Adrian Harris for being the most important people in my life.. My grandfather gave me the passion for bbq. If it wasn’t for spending weekends cooking bbq and bonding with the only male figure I had in my life. I wouldn’t be doing bbq.. My wife most importantly for taking this journey with me and being supportive helping me follow my dreams.
