We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve wanted my own business for years because I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry. It’s something I’ve loved since I was a child, and after working in the field and building loyal clients for over 33 years, it felt like the right time to take that leap. The name Kevant was inspired by my late partner. It’s a way to honor him and keep his memory alive in something meaningful to me. Starting this business 10 years ago wasn’t just about pursuing my passion—it was about creating a space that feels personal, welcoming, and rooted in love.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kevant Salon & Spa is more than just a business to me—it’s a dream that’s been years in the making. What sets us apart is the personal connection we create with our clients. I’ve built a loyal clientele over the past 33 years, and I take pride in making everyone who walks through our doors feel cared for, confident, and beautiful.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. Starting a business comes with its challenges, like balancing finances, navigating the pandemic, and building something from the ground up. But I’ve learned to stay determined, trust my vision, and lean on the support of my clients, family, and community.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying consistent and never losing sight of why I started. Kevant was inspired by my late partner, and this journey is as much about honoring them as it is about creating a space where people feel valued and empowered.

I want the world to know that Kevant Salon & Spa isn’t just about services—it’s about creating an experience. It’s a place built with love, passion, and the belief that beauty can truly uplift and inspire people. My story is proof that with dedication and heart, dreams can come true.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta, I’d make sure to give her an unforgettable experience. Here’s how our week would look:

Day 1: Exploring the City
We’d start with breakfast at Atlanta Breakfast Club—their peach cobbler French toast is amazing! Then, we’d head to the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola. For lunch, Mary Mac’s Tea Room would be perfect for some classic Southern comfort food. In the evening, we’d check out Ponce City Market for shopping, drinks, and rooftop games at Skyline Park.

Day 2: Arts & Culture
We’d visit the High Museum of Art and then stroll through Piedmont Park. For lunch, I’d take her to South City Kitchen for elevated Southern dishes. Later, we’d explore the street art in Cabbagetown and grab coffee at Java Cats Café. Dinner would be at Canoe, with its beautiful riverside view.

Day 3: History & Heritage
We’d spend the day learning at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. For lunch, we’d stop by Busy Bee Café, known for its soul food. That evening, we’d catch a live show at The Fox Theatre.

Day 4: Shopping & Relaxing
We’d visit Atlantic Station and Lenox Square for some retail therapy. Lunch would be at True Food Kitchen for something fresh and healthy. In the afternoon, we’d relax with spa treatments at Jeju Sauna. Dinner would be at Two Urban Licks, known for its cool vibe and great food.

Day 5: Adventure Day
We’d take a morning hike at Stone Mountain Park and enjoy the incredible views. Afterward, we’d grab lunch at Slutty Vegan for their famous plant-based burgers. We’d spend the afternoon exploring Krog Street Market and walking the BeltLine. For dinner, we’d hit up The Optimist for fresh seafood.

Day 6: Food & Nightlife
We’d brunch at Milk & Honey before heading to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Later, we’d have dinner at Gunshow, where the chef-driven concept is interactive and fun. For nightlife, we’d check out Edgewood Avenue or Lounge Bar 44 for great cocktails.

Day 7: Chill & Farewell
On the last day, we’d keep it relaxed. We’d grab breakfast at Flying Biscuit Café and take a stroll through Grant Park and the Zoo Atlanta. Lunch would be at Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q for some of the best barbecue in town. We’d end the trip with dessert at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams before heading to the airport.

Atlanta has so much to offer—good food, great vibes, and unforgettable experiences. It’s all about balancing the must-see attractions with local gems!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful to God for giving me the skills and the drive to pursue this dream with everything I have. I’m also incredibly thankful for my amazing support system and my loyal clients who have stood by me. A special shoutout goes to Bessie Philpot for pushing me during Cosmetology school and to the late Annie Paul Robinson, who believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself and inspired me to reach higher.
